I don't think God would sell us short. If we went with good intent I don't believe we would loose by it.
Rites of exorcisms are great tools in spiritual battles. But it is the faith of the exorcist that is the sharpest sword. A truly holy man can cast out demons with two words. Begone created-one! So, even though some prayers might be more powerful then others ..........it is the holiness of Gods saints; in the name of Our Lord Jesus Christ through the intercession of the Our Blessed Mother and all the Angeles and Saints.............that cast out demons. May Gods Will Be Done
I heard one time of a very holy Irish /American priest (now I am sure long since gone to heaven. .and who also as far as I recall lived on the West Coast)) . Anyway this old guy conducted many hundreds of Exorcisms in his life but his fellow priests were really curious about him on two counts. Firstly he never seemed to suffer any ill effects at all, he conducted the exorcisms as calmly as it he were riding a bike, no fuss no problems, no come backs, no attacks on himself. The second thing that really surprised people was how fast and certain his exorcisms were, even in the most terrible difficult cases the devils would simply get up and go in short order. No fuss or drama. So sometimes he was asked , 'How come?' and in reply he used to raise his eyes to heaven and laconically answer , 'I have a friend up there who handles it for me'. ..and that was all he ever said. . I suspect the friend (of course) was Our Blessed Lady. ..who else? But I also suspect he was a very, very saintly guy indeed , but very well hidden in a practical no nonsense workmanlike exterior. A very, very, very humble man indeed.
And do you know what I read somewhere from a priest if I remember correctly. Every time we go to sacramental confession we are exorcising the evil spirits. Therefore, the better and more sincere we make our confessions the more powerful the exorcism we can effect through the absolution of our priests. Not bad eh? Of course when we speak of exorcism generally we refer to souls who have become possessed. That is one for the Bishops of the Church to address. But we can stay safe by going to confession...
I think mot believing in the devil gives him great power over us. On the other hand witches and Satanists fall into his paws by believing too much, if you see what I mean. But there is a middle ground of being always aware he is out there and out to get us. I don't honestly think even many Catholics fully believe this these days. I hope I am wrong. http://www.theguardian.com/commenti...ret-devil-being-made-redundant-hell-be-missed
On a lighter note .... this Parson might need some training from Fr Amorth - his 'exorcism' is rudely interrupted:
In an ironic sort of way as many "conservatives" Catholics worry about the changes Pope Francis is bringing, he is actually very traditional in his sermons on the devil. http://www.washingtonpost.com/world...6a9354-1b93-4662-abbb-d877e49f15ea_story.html
