God works in mysterious ways. Through movies like - It’s a Wonderful Life, On the Waterfront, St Bernadette, St Rita, St Joan of Arc, Camelot, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, etc, etc., he has always spoken to me. And in Nefarious, I felt the loneliness of being a practicing Catholic today. Almost felt as if God has abandoned us. And immediately I thought of Christ’s passion. This movie has arrived at the right time. It’s exactly what we are seeing our Church go through today. I don’t think that’s a coincidence.
I appreciate your detailed response, BrianK! I did mention the movie to my sisters and am leaving it in God's hands whether He inspires them to go or not. They and their fiance/husband watch all kinds of horror movies, so I figured I might as well give them the opportunity to consider this one, which would actually be of some possible spiritual benefit.
Wonderful discussion! I live alone and do like good movies. I would rather watch a good secular movie like Pride and Prejudice than a bad religious movie with false doctrine or even subtly anti-Catholic doctrine. I appreciate ones that portray demons as they are because although I usually don't watch, my secular extended family like cousins and niece and nephew do watch them and I'm hoping it will at least scare them back to God. I wasn't planning to watch Nefarious but I probably will now as you all liked it so well. I'm not afraid of demonic movies and they do not disturb my peace. To me, demons are simply God's enemies and are horrible in every way. They used to hound me when I was away from God and scare me then but being close to Jesus and Mary I no longer feel overpowered by them.
I too am very susceptible to images staying in my mind, and I do feel that these are some things that need to be burned out in purgatory so am cautious. I do think in our times God is giving us special graces for this, as we cannot even drive to work without some obscene image or language invading our space without our consent! I pray that we may we be able to walk boldly through satan's world of sinful images, sounds, and actions and not be poisoned or lose our souls! And yes, I too try to avoid them at all costs so don't blame you for that....
This is extremely well said! You spoke the truth here. In the world but not of the world. Thank you, Carmel. Also we need to avoid the near occasions of sin, and that is what you said.
I stumbled across a very entertaining film last night. And I'm keen to hear what people think of it. Especially American members. I discovered it was true story too. The Jesus Revolution. Has anyone seen it?
I watched the Michael Lofton interview with Fr. Carlos after I had seen a video on the GabiAfterHours Youtube channel. Fr. Carlos spoke about a podcast he did getting over a million hits within days. I don't know what a podcast is. Would I need a special gadget to access it or is a podcast something that just requires clicking on a link in a website? If the answer is something everyone should know, please pardon my ignorance.
Fr. Carlos’ website is https://www.exorcistfiles.tv/ If you’re looking for his podcasts, you can just go to that website and click on each podcast and it will play. If you’re using a smartphone there are podcast apps you can download to listen to his and other podcasts.
“Nefarious” Release in the US Nefarious hits theaters on September 23, 2023.” Sept 23 is feast of Padre Pio, a great exorcist.
