yes this seems like a strong link between scientific events and the earthquakes that have been predicted Our Lady, this might be a good doorway to tell people about it as some people listen to science rather than religion, and the facts are there. I am thinking of putting crucifixes on my front and back door, not sure how to do it in a subtle way dont really want to draw a lot of attention to it, has anyone else done this for protection?
Angela Praying the rosary in your home is a protection also consecrate your self and your home to the 2 hearts of Jesus & Mary. I have a religous picture or statue /crucifix in each room of my home. It doesent have to be very large but get the object blessed by a priest and shake Holy Water around regularly. Mary
Angela, When you shake the Holy water, just say a simple prayer inviting the Lord and all the saints and angels- to come and protect your home property, possessions and those who live there/enter there. i do this on a regular basis and not only am I happier and more secure but my dogs are as well. It helps to instill a real peace.
good advice I will do all that, been meaning to bless our dog with holy water as well. I love dogs I can really see the work of God in them, that might sound strange to some people but they are so innocent and loving.
I posted my opinions about Elenin and such on another thread (which thread was that?...) and somewhere I read where Padraig says Wormwood will not happen for a very long time, and I agree, based on what I said in the other post about coming events and Elenin. I have some great blessing prayers for your home and land, based on ones I found online. It is best if a Priest can do it, but armed with holy water and blessed salt and our faith we can certainly do it ourselves too. I did - used up a lot of salt and holy water in the process as we have a big yard! I just got back from my son's house, where they have just moved in, and I found, tucked in the back of their kitchen counter, the container of Blessed Salt I sent to them at Easter...EMPTY! I didn't ask them about it, but I am going to send them a refill...I am assuming they used it when they moved in? (See, the seeds take root in subtle ways). And my daughter in law is Jewish, for those newcomers who don't know... I blessed my birds and my cats, in fact the cats have been sprinkled many times as I recently put up a little holy water font in the house, and if they are underfoot when I use it, I shake a little on them from my hand (lol). I also have a crucifix in every roon (some rooms have two). I do not have one on the outside of the front door, but perhaps a time will come when that will be a good thing to do. I will have plenty of them to choose from in the house. I bought a small St. Benedict crucifix at Marytown for my retreat room while there, and now I have tucked it into our travel bag. When we are at a hotel, I now hang it somewhere in the room. At first it seemed a bit weird, but now I find it makes me feel really warm inside when I hang it, and I find myself praying in front of it at some point during our stay...something I may not ordinarily do diligently when we travel! Thanks for that, God. It can be hung from a cord or chain, so I have a cord that I keep with it as usually there is no nail to hang it on, I have to hang it from something else, like a lamp or the corner of a picture or something. Animals make great messengers for God and for our angels, I think many here on this forum believe that. As an aspiring Secular Franciscan, I have an especially strong affinity for birds as messengers of God. A little Holy water and prayers for their well-being I think makes God happy. We were made responsible for them by Him after all.
I have this saved as a word file. I sent it to my kids along with the salt and holy water at Easter. I know now that both of them have used it at their new homes, even though they think I am goofy! (yay!) planting seeds... There are many blessings you can say, or you can create your own. I did modify these a bit to suit my family. The Franciscans here in Belfast have a blessing for animals once a year in Belfast, I think maybe they have it alll over the world. I got my last dog blessed by an old Franciscan at the Poor Clares a couple of years ago. I would say of all the religious orders and all Catholic spirituality the Franciscan one is closest to animals. My puppy is tearing at my clthes to move me out to mass as we speak. I was walking along a very busy main road last night and he escaped from his collar. FOur women caught him for me. I nearly dropped, she is mad. I must get her trained. :shock:

Tomorrow is our monthly Secular Franciscan meeting. I am looking forward to it. I love going to the polish church in Rockford with the Franciscan Friers there. Love it. The leader wants me to do my Rite of Welcoming at the next meeting in August. I have not declared my intention to become a Secular Franciscan yet...actually I don't feel I have been doing the things I should be yet, but in my heart I know I would be so happy to become one someday. If it takes 5 years, it does. At first I was going to tell him I wanted to wait, but the only reason to wait is if I wasn't sure it was for me. That is not the problem at all. The problem is I have not been giving the proper attention to my prayer life, or to doing it as the order requires. With looking for work, being completely out of work, and all the other things going on in my life, I just feel very disjointed in many ways, including the Franciscan life. But I contemplated about it for a week now and frankly everything in my being is saying to go ahead and make this first step. Perhaps it is just what I need to do to start getting at least one aspect of my life back on track, I don't know. In a way it feels like taking on more and I don't feel like I can do that right now, but it is a way of life, not a lot of stuff to "do" at this point. So tonight I emailed him and said, Ok, let's do it in August. Lord, Make me an instrument of your Peace... The new statue I bought of St. Francis for my blueberry garden I bought at a Farm store called Farm & Fleet, which surprised me that they had them there - then yesterday I went into a Menards Store (for those not in the USA it is a huge lawn, garden, home repair, hardware store chain) and in the garden section they had a HUGE St. Francis Statue - it was 4 feet tall and had a deer by his side and birds of course, and he was smiling so sweetly looking down upon the animals. I swear if I had a place for him.......but I already have him in both the front and back yard and also on a table in my living room, so I guess I better stop. The shocker was that they had such a big statue of him there at that store. In the midst of all this mess going on against the church, it seems that these statues are actually appearing in more, instead of less places...St, Francis and also 'Mary statues. They are appearing everywhere! I thank God for that.

I love how there is a patron saint for animals, God thinks of everything. Actually didnt know St Francis had the stigmata, just looked him up online to find out more. its so inspiring how the saints chose to live a life of poverty, really helps you to let go of the attachment to material things. Salt is infused with the exorcism prayers. Then when a priest blesses water to make Holy Water, he adds some of the exorcism-infused salt to the water. I think the idea is that when the liquid is gone, the mineral remains and it strengthens the permanence and power of the blessings of the water. It is also why many people like to use Holy Salt in addition to Holy Water. It remains in a physical way where it falls. Some people cook with it to promote healing or whatever is their concern. It is great for protecting the perimiter of a house. It is another one of those old traditions that is now making a comeback. Ironically, the first time I heard about Blessed or Holy Salt was from Fr. Corapi. In one of his talks, he explained the exorcism prayers used for the salt and the water just before he was going to bless some that day. Today though, priests have a choice of blessings to use, for instance, for water used in baptism, many priests do not infuse this water with exorcism prayers. I prefer the exorcism infused water and salt for my home, so I make sure to ask the priest if he uses the "strong" blessings and salt for the water in the big decanter for the people to take from. Hint, most Franciscian Priests do, and so do many of the newer priests who are embracing and bringing back the traditional and mystical practices. Our priest leaves a full container of the salt out next to the holy water decanter for people to help themselves to both. Some churches or monastaries package it in bags for people to take. I have even seen it in some gift shops, but remember that it should never be sold for a fee (donations are ok). Neither should Holy Water, I have learned, though sometimes it is for sale in shops. I see Lourdes water for sale sometimes, and have bought some myself, but i believe it is okay because it is water from the spring, not blessed water from a priest at a church.
It is only my opinion and I haven't heard this elsewhere but I have always found Blessed Salt more powerfdul than Holy Water. Now why should this be? Well I wonder sometimes if we sprinkle Holy Water after a while, it being water it evaporates; on the other hand if you sprinkle Blessed salt, it being a solid it stays put. So I save Blessed Salt as my heavy hitter. I get it by bringing a little porcelain tub full of salt to confession and get it blessed by an older priest. I say older priest because I am always afraid the younger ones won't know about it and think I'm nuts. :lol: But anyway I always notice it works better. Blessed Salt Rev. John H. Hampsch C.M.F. There is a renewed interest today in the ancient sacramental of blessed salt, especially by charismatics, in healing and deliverance situations, etc. To understand its proper use and its efficacy, it would be helpful to review the Scriptural symbolism and its history, since Vatican II urges us to participate “intelligently and actively” in the use of sacramentals, just as in the use of Sacraments. Salt in the ancient world was a precious commodity (even monopolized by the royalty in Egypt and Persia). Roman soldiers were partially paid with packets of salt (“sal” in Latin); this was the origin of our word “salary” and of phrases like “worth his salt,” etc. Being costly, it was an appropriate offering to God as a “covenant of salt” (Lev. 2:13; II Chron. 13:5; Num. 18:19) used in sacrifices by the Isrealites (Ezek. 43:24) and for the accompanying sacrificial meal (Gen. 31:54). Belief in its preservative and healing properties led to its use to dry and harden the skin of newborns (Ezek. 16:4) and to prevent umbilical cord infection. Used for 3500 years to preserve meats from deterioration, it became a symbol of preservation and spiritual incorruptibility that was to characterize anyone offering sacrificial worship. Shared at the sacrificial meal, salt became a symbol of friendship and hospitality, a custom-symbol still used today in Arab culture. Jesus referred to this salt-symbolized friendship covenant in Mark 9:50: “Have salt in yourselves and be at peace with one another”—that is, “preserve that quality (flavor) that makes you a blessing to one another.” (Note the double symbol of preservation and flavoring.) This double primary symbolization is also found in Paul’s advice in Col. 4:6: “Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” That is, let it be wholesome and savory, preserved from the corrupting conversation of worldlings (3:8 and Eph 4:29). (His use of the word salt may also have referred to another of its symbols: spiritual wisdom, since the Latin word for savor or taste, “sapientia”, is the same as for wisdom.) Some or all of these symbols may have been implied in Jesus’ words to his chosen ones, describing them as the “salt of the earth” (Matt. 5:13). He especially indicated that they were to oppose the world’s corruption, reminding them that, as salt must preserve its own anti-corruptive quality, they too must preserve their anti-corruptive influence in a sin-corrupted world. (See Luke 14:34). The blessing promised by God on food and water, as well as the prevention of miscarriages and agricultural catastrophes (Exod. 23:25-26) was extended by God through Elisha in Jericho (II Kings 2:20-21), when he was inspired to put salt into the contaminated water. Adding salt to already brackish water to decontaminate it, made the miracle all the more impressive, since one would expect the opposite effect. This first miracle of Elisha is the primary Scriptural basis for thesacramental use of blessed salt today, as the Roman Ritual indicates. As a Catholic sacramental, salt blessed by the liturgical prayer of a priest may be used by itself, unmixed, as in exorcisms, and formerly in the exorcistic prayer at baptism, or it may be mixed with water to make holy water, as the Ritual prescribes (reminiscent of Elisha’s miracle). In whichever form, it is intended to be an instrument of grace to preserve one from the corruption of evil occurring as sin, sickness, demonic influence, etc. As in the case of all sacramentals, its power comes not from the sign itself, but by means of the Church’s official (liturgical, not private) prayer of blessing—a power the Church derives from Christ himself (see Matt. 16:19 and 18:18). As the Vatican II document on the Liturgy states (art. 61), both Sacraments and sacramentals sanctify us, not of themselves, but by power flowing from the redemptive act of Jesus, elicited by the Church’s intercession to be directed through those external signs and elements. Hence sacramentals like blessed salt, holy water, medals, etc. are not to be used superstitiously as having self-contained power, but as “focus-points” funneling one’s faith toward Jesus, just as a flag is used as a “focus-point” of patriotism, or as handkerchiefs were used to focus faith for healing and deliverance by Paul (Acts 19:12). Thus used non-superstitiously, modest amounts of salt may be sprinkled in one’s bedroom, or across thresholds to prevent burglary, in cars for safety, etc. A few grains in drinking water or used in cooking or as food seasoning often bring astonishing spiritual and physical benefits, as I have personally witnessed many times. As with the use of Sacraments, much depends on the faith and devotion of the person using salt or any sacramental. This faith must be Jesus-centered, as was the faith of the blind man in John 9; he had faith in Jesus, not in the mud and spittle used by Jesus to heal him. In light of this, we can see why Vatican II states that “there is hardly any proper use of material things which cannot thus be directed toward the sanctification of persons and the praise of God.” (art. 61 of Liturgy document). Hence new sacramentals may also be added when rituals are revised (art. 79). Blessed salt is certainly not a new sacramental, but the Holy Spirit seems to be leading many to a new interest in its remarkable power as an instrument of grace and healing. Any amount of salt may be presented to a priest for his blessing, using the following official prayer from the Roman Ritual: “Almighty God, we ask you to bless this salt, as once you blessed the salt scattered over the water by the prophet Elisha. Wherever this salt (and water) is sprinkled, drive away the power of evil, and protect us always by the presence of your Holy Spirit. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen.”
