Did any one realise that the village of Medjugorje made their living making wine and producing tobacco. It was very evident the first time I went there. Nowadays it looks like tourism is the main stay for their income. That does not stop me from believing. Just a thought.

Be careful of a video link on the New York times newspaper - I clicked on it -- and there was a man set on fire burning in the street in a town in Venezuela with no one helping as he was accused of stealing food so that was his punishment. He burnt to death. WARNING - Graphic content - made me feel sick.
I was really referring to the claim by the poster you were responding to who described alcohol as an evil. I get no sense of water being unsafe to drink from the gospels. Indeed it is a symbol of purity. Water pollution seems a more modern phenomenon. I think wine and beer have been drunk throughout history mainly because they are pleasant and are a good thing in themselves. Of course, like everything, they can be abused.
I didn't bother reading the New York Times article because of the silly headline. God provided plenty to Venezuela and the resources he provided didn't disappear. Venezuelans elected the politicians who abused God's bounty.
