Here is an article from the Sunday front page of our local newspaper. Our local congressman has written a book on "mindfulness" - a concept rooted in Buddhism but "not much different than what his grandmother did praying the rosary". http://www.cleveland.com/open/index.ssf/2012/04/tim_ryan_steel-town_congressma.html It is my belief that the true agenda is to meld all of the mainstream religions into a synthetic, all-inclusive one devoid of God that everyone can embrace for the greater good. Notice how the congressman calls himself a Catholic when he is very pro-choice. The fact that this is being taught in our public schools with an unnamed grant is appalling. Soon they will have us dancing around their Tolerance Pole in some new May Day festival. Heaven help us non-believers in mindfulness in the days to come.
My sister has returned from India where she finished and advanced, Master's Yogi course. She has now set up her won school near the Park where I walk the dog. I doubt she had attended a Catholic Church since she was a child and I feel she has an inner, intense hostility to the Faith. But I think different spiritual evils have different faces. I think New/Age Eastern Traditions can have a face of apparent openness and light. They present us with a syncreticism that implies that we're all heading to the same place and that all Faith basically are the same. However if all Faiths are true, no Faith is true. They can't be all right. This is so clear in today's Gospel: John 12:44-50 44 Then Jesus cried out, “Whoever believes in me does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me. 45 The one who looks at me is seeing the one who sent me. 46 I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness. 47 “If anyone hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge that person. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. 48 There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; the very words I have spoken will condemn them at the last day. 49 For I did not speak on my own, but the Father who sent me commanded me to say all that I have spoken. 50 I know that his command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say.” But it seems to me the same false Spirit that motivates New Age, Eastern understanding underlies much false Liberal /Modernist 'Catholic' thought, it is so superficially attractive and sweet, super charitable, full of words like 'love' 'Understanding', togetherness' , fleeing like Satan from words to do with hard truths, such as Judgement, Hell, Dogma, Commandments and so on.... A Spirit of Light and sweetness and Universal harmony and Understanding but still a Spirit from out of Hell trying to drag you down to hell.
Mindfulness is reminds me of what Monsignor Smith used to say "Sometimes a new idea is just an old heresy" http://www.cleveland.com/open/index.ssf/2012/04/tim_ryan_steel-town_congressma.html
