I had never thought of poor Mel having these issues but it all seems to fit , poor man. On a positive note I had a friend Malachy, who had a similar problem and whom I loved to listen to. The way he approached thing was so different from, 'Normal' people it approached real genius . He turned things upside down in a way. It was the same with Mel Gibson when he proposed setting, 'The Passion of the Christ' in the original Aramaic I just thought to myself, 'That's gonna sink like a stone'. I am sure all Hollywood thought the same. Also when the screen play was based on the visions of Catherine Emmerich I thought it was wonderful but was a bird that would not fly. But Mel proved everyone wrong. This was pure genius. But my heart does go out to Mel's wife and children, they are the real victims in all this. But it all reminds me of the words of Jesus about being careful of judging. Everyone has their own story.
Poor man. I get the I pression that maybe he has given up on prayer. Daily prayer is essential for everyone. More so for those in the cess pool that is the entertainment industry. God help him. And God help those priests driven to such desperate measures.
Mel makes me think that we don't have to die to experience hell. We can experience hell right here and now. All that fame, the good looks, the tons of money, the genius, the popularity. ..but still.. ..hell on Earth.
At the most basic level. If we are simply not happy, what use anything else? If I was naked and shivering on top of a dung heap and was still happy I would be in a far better place than poor Mel. I am very,very happy and at peace. Thank God , these are great, great blessings.
I love this Scripture. There was a hymn with these words. At every graduation, every year, the music director had the choir sing it as a way of blessing the graduates. This was in a public school, too! I’ll never forget how moving it was to sing it, in full chorus. That was before Judeo-Christian values were thrown out of public ceremonies.
I think you are on to something. He has tried it seems at various times to clean up his act but he can't sustain it. His film of The Passion was IMO brilliant and anointed. There was grace in every frame of it. During the time he was filming it he went to Confession and Holy Communion every day. He is deeply flawed but there is a sense in that film of a deep love and devotion to Our Lady.
Yes, serious mental illness is a very heavy cross, which mitigates the culpability of the sin, and which can really hurt others too. My own daughter has finally admitted to full blown bipolar with mania and detachment from reality, so I have reason to believe my wife does too, if not to the same degree. That’s why I have a unique understanding of it and it’s symptoms. I’ve been dealing with it a long time. So it’s hard to be angry when those we love are hurting us due to mental illness. It is, like I said, a severe cross.
I was just thinking last night of all the famous people who are or where, effectively, mad. Britney Speers, Kanya West, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Lady Gaga..the list goes on and on...
Kayne West came out with a new cd. It was phenomenal he mentioned God tons. Such a gift he's able to persevere through his struggles. I write music and would one day want to perform he is a big influence.
