Isn’t pride a good thing if it is for Our Lord and our religion? Maybe the meaning is to feel proud as a Christian. Some of us are embarrassed to admit we are.
I am a proud father of three men. As a teacher I took pride in my 36 years of commitment to the teaching profession. I am proud to be a devoted son of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Why would our lady not take pride in her children who are responding to her call to conversion? Pride is not always a negative.
Remember the quote in the bible referring to end times and it says to hold your heads high your redemption is at hand…..? ( something like that)If anyone can find the exact passage and post it would be appreciated. To me it seems similar to the word “pride” in the message. Luke 21 I believe
I always took the phrase hold your head high in this to be full of hope rather than pride . In a worldly sense we can take pride in our achievements (even then giving dues to God). But never ever in a spiritual sense. We owe everything to God Everything. This humility is particularly true of Marian spirituality . Mark 7:21-23 Perhaps I am wrong but this message makes me feel very uneasy
It would be interesting to see if Sister Emmanuel does a commentary on the message. It’s definitely an interesting discussion. I am not ready to write off the message yet. Would like to pray more for understanding.
We do owe everything to God, but free will allows us to say yes or no to his grace. We do have some participation in His requests, strengthened by His grace. But I get what you are saying Padraig. Still mauling over it …
I have to say the further I walk the Pilgrim Path of prayer the less I see in myself to be proud of. Quite the opposite in fact. The Holy Spirit is never slow to convict us of our sins. As St Paul says we have all fallen far shirt of the Glory of God Pride is not a word that should ever appear in our spiritual lexicon
I think you are correct that it is a kind of mistranslation. Though the use of the word pride can have different meanings. I believe that "confidence" might be a more appropriate word in this instance. Confidence is a synonym of pride.
The quote using confidence instead of pride reminds me of the quote from Our Lady of Guadalupe. "Am I not here, I who am your Mother".
Honestly asking: So if confidence is a synonym of pride, is it possible to say there is a such thing as "holy confidence" vs "sinful confidence"? Or a "holy pride" vs a "sinful pride"? One thing I've noticed for myself is that there has always been a very fine line between being confident and being full of pride....Maybe the line was really just crossing from being in God's grace back over to sin regardless of the word used to describe it? Semantics are difficult when it comes to things of the spirit....
I, too, am concerned about the wording of this last message and am hoping for an explanation, like a poor translation has occurred here.
Apparently yes 5. Dear friends, in fulfilment of the Petrine "munus", I intend to strengthen your faith in the identity of Christ and in your own identity as "other Christs". Take holy pride in being "called", and be especially humble before so great a dignity, in the awareness of your human weakness. - SPJPII https://www.ewtn.com/catholicism/library/take-holy-pride-in-being-other-christs-8229 This is a good biblical exegesis regarding holy pride. https://pastorstratman.wordpress.com/2019/09/01/empty-sinful-pride-vs-solid-holy-pride/
I prayed for that today on my rosary walk. For Our Lady to bring clarity to this message, if it is from her.
If I am reading this correctly, holy pride is a sense of self-worth derived strictly from the gifts of God to ourselves and others. Be it our lives, our redemption, His creation, His Holy Mother and her guidance/protection, and so on.
That’s how I was understanding it. We are not worthless, but we aren’t worthy and Gods bestows His blessings on His faithful
So a kind of holy paradox? It's difficult to wrap one's head around it sometimes.......We are not worthless because we are created by & loved by God, but we best remember our place in His order of things, always taking care to remember that everything we have, including our lives themselves are gifts from a loving Father?
Our souls in sanctifying grace have immense dignity and beauty. The more we are transformed by the cross, the more we glorify God because we are beginning to resemble His Son.
Im not a theologian or qualified to analyse messages but the way I see this is as a body of people of faith we need to be strong and proud that we are on the side of Christ. I think this is relevant in view of the terrible events at the Olympics. We get hung up on meek and I am so humble and stand up for nothing. I personally am proud to be a Christian and to stand with Jesus and all the generations before me.
