Thanks Padraig, I probably should have another look at the information on this apparition. It's been a while since I was reading about it previously. I just remember that there were some aspects of the story that were open to question and I opted to leave it be. As is often mentioned there's no obligation to accept any 'private revelation' approved or otherwise.
There are several nuns in the convent in Quito--where the miraculous statue of Our Lady of Good Success resides--that are incorrupt. You can go see them.
The nuns report that occasionally the miraculous statue comes to life at night and walks through the convent. The rationalist church of today may scoff at all this. I have absolutely no problem believing it to be true. So Jesus said to him, “Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe.” John 4:48
They are it appears, more than a little wobbly on apparitions. When Papa Frankie was at his evil work I asked them why they were not calling him out. They said that was not their job. I sent them back a message saying that was very convenient for them. They never replied. The same could be said for Pope Leo.
Another false opinion generally held is that Catholics have the freedom to reject or accept at will Marian Apparitions at will , rather like someone at a supermarket who takes or does not take what they wish to take home and use. Not so. When Our Lady comes from heaven she is not coming as a day tripper. She comes as Queen of Prophets, sent from heaven on the Wings of the Holy Spirit. She has a mission and a purpose. When we reject such a apparition (especially a Church Approved on and especially if we reject it publically) we will have to give an account before God for so doing. We see this in Scripture : Acts 7:52 Which of the prophets have your fathers not persecuted? And they have slain those who foretold the coming of the Just One. Of Him ye have now been the betrayers and murderers,
To be honest, I don't know much about Jimmy Aikin or Catholic Answers. The article came up when I was trying to recall what the issues were that had given me pause for thought in relation to the events in Quito and it happened to cover some of them. I suppose the main one is the specific nature of the prophecies and the question marks over when they were made. As I mentioned, there doesn't appear to be overwhelming evidence that they come from the time of the apparition. The first written accounts are much later and seemingly based on an earlier manuscript which is no longer available. As I said, I ended up leaving it to one side, maybe it's time to have another look.
I would say Catholic Answers does not always have the answers. I have always been very unhappy with the way they have treated the current Apostasy in the Church. Not a peep.
This is why in the midst of all these apparition claims over the past 100 plus years we are blessed to have the Church magisterium to sift through all the messages. I remember Fr Ripperger speaking of Our Lady of Fatima as a public apparition sealed by heaven with the miracle of the sun. Absolute proof. Therefore indisputable. Lourdes too was and is sealed by miracles. I think Our Lady of Good Success has had similar proofs. Several current Catholic heavyweights have studied it and have even been there and in my reading the apparitions were well documented and the miracle of the incorrupt bodies of Mother Marie Torres and many of the nuns seems a pretty significant sign. In this current barrage of messages from various seers it is hard not to think the enemy is behind some o them directly or indirectly. This is why we must abide by the Church's decision. Obedience is our safeguard.
There was a time I would have agreed. But now , I have to be honest I have zero trust in what the present Vatican encumbents think about anything, including Apparitions. They have their own foul agenda. A good example of a foul agenda at work was the way they treated Our Lady of Akita. So zero trust. Nada. Zilch. Nothing.
