Here is an idea on how to establish more and more latin masses at a quicker pace. If you already attend a latin mass get a group of say 5 or 10 faithful to become latin mass missionaries. Target parishes with smaller or dwindling congragations and start attending the novus ordo mass. Mix in with the congragation as individuals and not as a group. Attend any after mass coffee and tea session and get to know people. After a few weeks, at least a month or more of at least weekly attendance if not more start introducing the idea of the latin mass to the faithfull at the coffee and tea sessions see who would support a latin mass at the parish and add them to your group try to gain as much support as possible with the unsure and indifferent members. Let the topic drop among those aggresively opposed. Take the group to the priest asking under summorum pontificum to have a latin mass offered at the parish be persistant and try to get a sunday or vigil mass. Be ready to take it all the way to the highest authority... the latin mass society will help. Smaller numbers at the parish will give you much more influence than at a larger parish. Once the mass is established target one or two individuals from the parish dedicated to the latin mass and add them to your group and target the next parish and repeat. As your groups number increases you can begin targeting larger parishes and begin to add more than just one or two to the group enabling even larger parishes to be targetted.
If you do not have a latin mass at your home parish and want one. You can also go to a latin mass and ask if there are any people there that would help you by using this method
Isn't it a thing that those attending a NO Mass can ask their bishop for the Latin Mass at their parish? If enough want it, don't they have to make it happen?
Yes that is correct, you can go to your priest and he can say latin mass without permission. If he wont or can not celebrate the latin mass you can go to the bishop and he has to appoint someone to say the latin mass if he does not the vatican has to force him to do so. While there is no mininum requirement i think the latin mass society reccomends a mininum of 6 to 12 for best results. The more latin masses the more bishops will request latin be taught in seminaries and current priests be trained in the latin mass and hopefully help restore the orthodox spirit of priests. S.p is a great tool to advance the restoration of the faith but there has to be some initive by the laity other wise the clergy will be happy to continue down the current path they are on
Would this even happen, with the kind of people we know are calling the shots at the Vatican currently?
They may drag their feet, but its kind of like the law. I think if it were denied it would be almost like making S.P invalid and that could cause a backlash against them.. i dont know if you could take those refusing to the apostolic signatura. I dont know maybe the vatican would enforce s.p... maybe they wouldnt. But could you imagine the headline. "Sex scandel hit Vatican refuses to enforce s.p. Now the faithfull are being refused latin masses" i could quite easily imagine it (mores the pitty) it would certainly upset a lot of people
Well, judging by how swiftly Cardinal Sarah was shot down by PF when the good Cardinal asked for all masses to be celebrated ad orientem, I think the pope's men at the Vatican aren't going to be in a hurry to go to the aid of parishioners where the priest or bishop do not allow Latin mass to be celebrated. Despite Summorum Pontificum.
I agree but if the latin mass is the will of the Holy spirit nothing can hold it back. If things are as dark as you suggest and maybe they are Can violence ever be justified in defence of the faith? The christeros, the vandee, the crusades, the rising of the north etc etc?
Yes, I believe God raised up those movements. They are there for our inspiration, and inspire they do, but in the final analysis they did not achieve their original objectives. And the pockets of faithful Catholics nowadays are too scattered to effectively achieve similar objectives. I believe with Fatima that our call today is to stand firm and shoulder our crosses: a type of redemptive suffering! Safe Under Mary's Mantle!
THIS, alas. But good to see you zeal for this, Mea Kulpa! So, SO important - which the great Benedict XVI understood so well.
