the family did not request an autopsy due to his multiple health problems....I would imagine they are a smart bunch. One is a Catholic priest. I suspect he had some health issues which they understood could take his life as it did....just my 2 cents....God took him in his sleep peacefully because he was such a valiant servant. I wish to go in a similar way.

So Obama is apparently too busy to pay respects ny attending Judge Scalia's funeral on Saturday. It shows the lack of character that this man has. This has nothing to do with an individual honor to a man, but the POTUS represents the people and is the leader of the Executive Branch. His prescence is of the people to honor a man representing the Judicial Branch. It's just poor tact and lousy leadership once again. The man can't separate his personal animus from his duty and role as POTUS

What else would you expect? Anyway, he would be a stain at the funeral, just as he is a stain to the office he holds.

Not always the biggest Alex Jones fan, but he has been doing a fine job of covering the suspicious Scalia death:

Donations: The Scalia family has asked that in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Supreme Court Historical Society; Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Arlington; and Benedictines of Mary, Queen of Apostles.

These are the sisters bishop Robert Finn brought to Missouri and helped. If you don't have EWTN, ABC is live streaming the funeral at 11:00 a.m. ET today.

If you can, watch Justice Scalia's son, Father Paul, give the homily at his father's funeral Mass. C-Span is airing the funeral at 8:58 EST this evening. Maybe, just the homily will be up at YouTube.

I watched and prayed Jackie and to be honest thought it was one of the most moving homilies I've ever heard. How hard it must have been for Fr. Paul who was there not just a a priest, but a son. He was magnificent! Justice Scalia was a wise man - not because of his position, but as Fr. Paul mentioned he knew he was a sinner and was seeking the mercy of God throughout his life. I thought it especially poignant when Fr. Paul again relayed something his father said to him after a funeral he attended some years back. He said while it was nice to hear all the platitudes for that decedent, he asked his son to do none of that at his funeral. Rather he asked that everyone pray for him, recognize he was a sinner, and beg God to forgive him, shorten his time in purgatory and bring him to paradise all according to God's plan. I think Fr. Paul and his family succeeded in fulfilling his request. We don't often hear this at funerals anymore. Often the platitudes do take precedent over the prayers for mercy. I loved how Fr. Paul started his homily:

We are gathered here because of one man,” Paul Scalia said. “A man known personally to many of us, known only by reputation to even more. A man loved by many, scorned by others. A man known for great controversy and great compassion.”

He paused. “That man of course is Jesus of Nazareth. It is he who we proclaim.”

If you have time watch or better yet go to EWTN as I think they have a replay. This Funeral Mass shows the power and beauty of our faith. It truly was inspiring.

    Oh miker,

You say it so well, I can't add. Father Paul's demeanor and presence, his voice. Every priest son of Our Lord and lay person should be smiling today if they watched. I prayed too.

The funeral Mass is up at C-Span. The homily starts at 1:05.o6 and the consecration 1:33 to 1:37.25.

This link brings you direct to the homily on YouTube:

An excellent homily where Fr. Scalia summed up why we Catholics believe in purgatory and pray for the dead.

Note the single comment posted beneath the YouTube video:

"In sum and substance, a perfect Catholic funeral homily. Would that they were all like this and not a canonization celebration."
