Is this the reaction of the Irish public due to PM Enda Kenny's outburst? The Government should speak out against this appalling behaviour! "Younger priests are afraid to go out in public wearing their clerical collars because of anger over the child sex abuse scandals, a well-known cleric claimed yesterday, Fr Paddy Dunne, the communications officer for Raphoe diocese, said he knew priests in Dublin who had been spat on." http://www.independent.ie/national-n...s-2840561.html
I feel for what you are going through in Ireland. It sounds very similer to what happened in Boston, priests being spit on, priests not wanting to go out in public in their collars, etc. That happened here too. Our politicians were very negative toward the church as they are now in Ireland, although it did not go so far as to break the seal of confession, which is a step farther than it went here. I know it's really, really painful now...but it's the purge, and purge is good. You will be stronger in the end, individual catholics who remain faithful and the priests will all be stronger. And men who join the priesthood will be stronger because they are joining because they love God so much and want to be priests...even though they know it won't be an easy life in this world. I know that right now it feels like your catholic world is falling apart...but this too shall pass. It's painful and I'm not trying to minimize it, but purging and spiritual growth can be a painful process. Just hang in there and continue to pray, as this is all part of God's plan to make His church stronger.
