The sadness on this thread is palpable. To our Irish brothers and sisters, please know that your prayers and faith are an inspiration and you fought valiantly to save the unborn. God did hear your prayers and though the outcome of this vote is devastating for Ireland, we will continue to pray and hope that the scourge of abortion will someday end. I went to adorations too. Only a few there but that's not unusual for a Saturday night. Feeling rather disgruntled on my way to the adoration chapel, I was determined to get it all off my chest to Jesus. After a few seconds of unloading, it occurred to me that what I was feeling was nothing compared to what Jesus must have felt as he was mocked, beaten and crucified by the people he was suffering to redeem. It wasn't a locution because I'm not the sort to receive messages or locutions - not nearly holy enough. It was more a "get real" moment. We need to up our game on the prayer and penance front in reparation for what our nation has done today.

Our prayers and daily sufferings must be offered up for each mother at the crossroads between death and Life. For every yes to repeal, we must turn back to our own families, to our own children - and say Yes to Life - by the way we care for them, nurture them, speak the hard truth in courage; as we take them over and over and over to God. I get the feeling it could be in the next few years. The far left in Ireland has just taken the upper hand. They are gloating and the people are lauding in their selfish pride. i guess a lot will be down to the pope and what happens to our church also.
As long as it's not 6 feet under! Only joking - we here on this forum are like an underground church. Persecution may come so it is possible people might physically have to organise on the ground. I cried tears for Ireland this morning. I cannot believe it that we have surrendered to the spirit of the age after centuries of keeping the faith against attack after attack from protestant triumphalists. But I must examine my own conscience and life and suggest the problem starts with me - we have been warned from heaven - we need to become saints as simple as that and be prepared to shed our blood for Christ or at least be prepared for a white martyrdom. These are times we need to rely on God's grace.
The thunderstorm crossed southern Ireland, where I am, last night. I was driving home around midnight and the sky was constantly lit up with lightning. Lying in bed trying to fall asleep I felt rolls of thunder so strong that things in the room were shaking. I thought for a minute maybe there was a small earthquake or tremor. It was a bit scary.
As I read your post, the thought came to me that this event must have gone through Our Lord's mind when He sweated blood over the sins of the human race in Gethsemane. Some mentioned God's anger being expressed in thunderstorms. We had plenty of His anger displayed in Tipperary last night. I wonder how the weather was in Donegal? Our old family dog is very subdued this morning-she has always been terrified of thunder. Maybe these unfallen creatures are less blind than we are. I remember reading a conversation between Father Malachi Martin and Wolfgang Smith, good Thomists both, about dogs and they both concluded that they belong, in some manner, to the angelic realm.
Before the resurrection was the apparent defeat of the cross. I remain hopeful of God's intervention before the chastisement(s). The Rosary remains the weapon so I encourage all to keep going - I feel we need to pray for guidance from God as to what to do in these times - It has been such a long haul for me personally -- I have had constant financial worries for years & raising a young family in these times was difficult as well as the constant stresses of work and life - surprised I haven't had a heart attack lol God must surely understand how we feel after yesterday's defeat - And the apostasy within the church the lack of leadership -- we are like sheep scattered -- I have complained to God -- how do you expect us to survive these times with our faith intact? - St Paul spoke as seeing through a glass dimly but the darkness in this land is on a different level now after yesterday's defeat -- These are the most difficult of times indeed -- the changes I have seen since I was a boy are utterly unbelievable - a total collapse of morality -- Only Our Lady and the Rosary has kept me sane!!
