The worst part of all for me is that none of this has to be happening. For as long as God has been trying to give us His graces humanity has been turning away their hearts and worshiping false gods. God wants ALL nations to receive his Love. I recently watched a talk on the Moabites by Sam Shamoun, and he demonstrated how God wanted Egypt to turn to Him when the Israelites left. God prospered the Moabites and the Ammorites, not just the Hebrews. But God chose Israel as the nation which He would appear to. But even then they still killed him. Absolutely brutal how sin has damaged humanity. I cannot imagine how amazing this world could be if everyone turned to the Living God.

 

It all contains an element of demonic glee! To revel in the secret knowledge of inflicting horrific pain: you can't get any lower than that. Similar to those that pull apart a fetus in the process of an abortion. Totally heartless! The fact that such are destined for the deepest pit in Hell gives me pause.

Lord have Mercy! Do whatever is necessary to yet save them! Let my heart not cultivate hatred toward them.

 

I'm open to correction, but I think the refinement of torture developed more in the declining late medieval and post-medieval periods.
