I've been there. It IS a beautiful place. I made my Consecration to the Blessed Mother there on May 13, 2017. It is a couple hours nw of Green Bay Wisconsin. Out in farmland . . .lots of people go there, I feel very blessed that I was able to visit.
Well the Peshtigo fire was horrific, not just for upper Wisconsin but the Upper Peninsula of Michigan as well. It was a huge fire . . .in that part of the country it is all wild and woods. And there is still a fear of drought and fire. The trees go up in a hurry because most of the woods are conifers. We lived in the U.P. for five years, our youngest son lives up there. He has 80 acres and worries about fires. There are several books and many miracles that occurred at the time of the Peshtigo fire. It was like a giant roaring wind of flame and travelled quickly because of the winds. Most people know of the Chicago fire, but this one happened at the same time and was much larger. Because it was so rural it did not get the publicity that Chicago had. There are times still when you are not allowed camp fires or burn barrels depending on how dry it is. They think the Peshtigo fires started from a campsite that was not extinguished.
I think it went round the Apparition site and did not harm it in miraculous fashion. But the fire itself was so instense and spontaneous. I wonder about it. Very unsual. I am not sure how such praire fires go in the USA but it certainly seemed very unusual. I must read up on it.
Yes I suppose all Catholics all over the World will be making a beeline for the nearest Catholic Shrine. Wonderful to think about. Traffic jams everywhere. I hope I can resist the urge to say, 'I told you so!'' I hope God will grant me as well the strong graces of conversion that are promised. I need so many mountains of such graces. The older I get the more I realise I need conversion, from so many things. Oh Lord I believe, help my unbelief!!
Me too Padraig. When I pray for the conversion of poor sinners I beg for deeper conversion of heart for myself and a deeper much deeper and zealous love for Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. "My sin is always before me..." I am being stripped of self illusion day by day. A great grace. The grace of growing old perhaps.
