I thought this was interesting, when I visited Ephesus we heard the story about Mary and St John going there to evangelise, but they had to escape the persecutions along with other Christians. I already knew the fish was a symbol of Christianity but didnt fully understand the meaning. In these days of the first century persuctions, Christians when they met a stranger would draw a half circle in the sand and if the orther person was also Christian they would complete the half circle making the fish symbol. I wonder in future persuctions would Christians still be able to use this symbol to recognise each other or is it too widely known now? There is also a symbol of an eight spoked wheel containing the letters of Ichthys written in the Greek alphabet, maybe that could be used?

Interesting...it was fun reading about the symbol and some of the goofy stuff people have done with it. So, Angelabelfast, how was your trip? Fill us in!

well Turkey was lovely, we only went to Ephesus for a day trip, was annoying because we didnt get to go to the Virgin Mary House as standard, it depended on how many people were there etc and they also wanted to charge extra, but it was still good seeing the roman ruins anyway, I was trying to visualise Mary and St John there walking the streets before they had to escape into the mountains. The tour guide said they tried to hang Mary, not sure if this is correct or not!

it was so unbearably warm there, the food wasnt that nice at our resort either but was still really nice to have a break!I think Medjuorje will be next, would like to go in May hopefully, once i can afford it will get it booked!
