Weclome Bob. I don't recall when last we had a non Catholic on the forum but you all the more welcome for that. I am not sure how informed you are on Catholic Teachings but we do not honour Mary as a , 'Goddess'. I don't really know any Protestants who do either Might I ask what religious tradition you are from? I am curious.. the , 'Rev'?
We lived with my grandmom til i was 6 and i had 4 older brothers. My Mom and granny both said the rosary daily and holy statues and pictures covered the 2 bedroom south philly rowhouse. My oldest brother died when i was 12 and i watched my mom give every hurt of her heart to the Blessed Mother. Granny lost most of her 10 children before she died at 90 and i never heard a word of self pity come out of her mouth. Now as a grandmom myself i reach out to our Blessed Mother daily and know that she is watching over my babies. My one daughter swore she would never get her kids baptized and a miracke happened. Last year i became the Godmother to emme rose and my grandson gavin at the age of 8 was also baptised. Thank you dear Momma Mary ❤
How beautiful. I think it was my own mother who led me to Devotion. She was more devoted to the Sacred Heart herself but I thought if my mother in heaven was anything like my mother on earth then she must be very special. That is how I started.
Bob, check out the websites for: Central Association of the Miraculous Medal And Association of the Miraculous Medal I am on cellphone and can’t link Both associations were set up in the early days in the United States as missions One is in Philly and one is in Missouri, I think
I've done some online studies with Esoteric groups, especially studying Mary in a lot of the classes. I may have learned new theories on the Bible scriptures, but Catholic studies often veer outside of the written word, also. I did grow up Protestant, BTW.
I mean no harm to anyone's beliefs. I just see Her as more than the Bible depicts. I pray to Her each morning. Have a Rosary too.
O Virgin Immaculate, Mother of God and my Mother, from your sublime heights please turn your eyes of pity on me. Filled with confidence in your goodness and knowing full well your power, I beg you to extend to me your assistance in the journey of life, which is so full of dangers for my soul. In order that I may never be a slave of the devil through sin, but may ever live with my heart humble and pure, I entrust myself wholly to you. I consecrate my heart to you forever, my only desire being to love your divine Son, Jesus. Mary, none of your devout servants has ever perished; may I, too, be saved. Amen.
By the way gracia, I've found praying the Chaplet of the Immaculate Conception to be really helpful! I'm trying to get into the habit of saying it every time I have free time, and say at least one chaplet everyday, though preferably much more. I've also gotten into the saying the Miraculous Medal prayer repeatedly every now, asking for more and more grace.
Yay! That's awesome, RW! I've been trying to at least pray the chaplet prayers as ejaculatory prayers throughout the day. So glad this is helping you! And thank you for the updates! Mary is awesome.
Our Lady has said that the prayer, Oh Mary Concieved without sin , pray for us who have recourse to thee', is her faovurite of all prayers. I always carry the medal.
It's great you have a devotion to Mary, Bob. I hope she leads you home. A Catholic Saint St Louis Grignion De Motford once said that no one who has a Devotion to Our Lady will ever be lost. I believe this so much to be true. If you look at her life you cans ee that after her Son's death and Ressurection she was with the Apostles and Disciples in prayer when the Holy Spirt came down in the form of fire and this , The Feast of Pentecost is the birth place of the Church. So Mary is in a real way the Mother of the Church. You might like this video on utube of how the Miraculous Medal came about.
Hi Rev. Bob, Welcome! I know, that as a Christian you know there is only One God. God is Infinite, Almighty and the Ultimate. As St John says........The Alpha and the Omega! God is one in the unity of His Being! while also possessing a Trinity of His persons! And God created all! So too God created the Most Holy Virgin Mary! The Blessed Virgin Mary is..... ............................................ the purest of God's creatures! .............................................God's Holy masterpiece! ...............................................And His Glory and crowning work! But The Blessed Virgin Mary, is not a goddess. May Our Dearest Mother Mary continue to lead you and to hold you under her mantle, where you will find the most exulted position to adore the one True God; The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit. Amen
I'm 1/2 way through my 33 day Marian consecration renewal. I've been wanting to do it for a long time and the 33 Days to Morning Glory book was sitting on my night table the whole time. I just couldn't pick that book up and saw it every day. I finally went to confession after waiting too long and that very day I could easily pick it up again. It was Mary that cleared the obstacles to getting back in God's grace allowing me to renew. I've worn a miraculous medal for 15 years or so.
