Yes but I mean who, ' bullied' or, 'pressurised', him? I mean really? Did Tony Soprano put a gun to his head? Isn't the whole point of being a Bishop that he is prepared to die for the Truth?

Yes Padraig....I thought he was the authority. Did he have to get their approval to issue a apology?

Most likely the lawyers from the diocese recommended the apology to avoid a lawsuit that was clearly a possibility.
It’s a shame that it took that to make him retract, because the evidence clearing those boys was out days before he actually apologized.

Ahh! I never thought of the lawyers!
I wonder if that is what made him attack the kids on the first place? But then was he not afraid of their parents suing him back?

Well in any case he made a total mess of things. I hope he is ashamed of himself.

I’m not sure if he is ashamed of himself...but he was shamed....

We have become "Of the world". The mission of saving souls in the United States has died. Our spiritual leaders have lived lavish lifestyles, grand parties and sinful acts. Its not about souls anymore... but about social justice at any cost. Infanticide has entered our mist. Pedophilia agenda is growing. A new proposed law in California states any sexual encounter with someone over 10 years old is a misdemeanor (NO JAIL TIME). Sad Sad Sad

    :(

One interesting thing about the USA is that there seems to be a different Spirit in every State. According to Catholic teaching every country and city has there own Guardian Angel. I suppose every state in the Union has there own angel. Some States seem to be making much, much better choices than others. So interesting.

I expect that Bishop Foys gets pressure daily from the media and all sorts people with an anti-Catholic bias. He would be used to that. He might not be used to pressure from, say, brother Bishops or celebrity priests. There appears to be a very strong pro-abortion lobby inside the Church, and that lobby appears to be aligned with the sodomy lobby. For them, the "We don't want to talk about abortion all the time" approach is the gift that keeps on giving. Evidently, in Covington Diocese that gift wasn't being handed down to the next generation, and a very convenient edited video gave them a means of manipulating the Bishop.

I think that Voris and others are hasty in calling for the resignation of Bishop Foys. Given that Pope Francis has been promoting homosexualist activist and abortion excusing Bishops, the next Bishop could be a whole lot worse than Bishop Foys. Bishop Foys should learn from this, get rid of anyone on his staff who urged him to condemn the children, and avoid the likes of Bishop Stowe like the plague. Doing so probably means that he will never be a favourite with the Vatican, but he probably wasn't "merciful" enough for that anyway.

Unless the , 'Pressure' and bullying' he was under came from the Vatican?
..or is that too far fetched?

...even more far fetched, that the other Kentucky Bishop were having their strings yanked from the same source? It would explain a lot.

Yes Dolorus....I hope he learns from this too. Sadly, any bishop that is being replaced is most likely a Cupich appointee....and we know how that will work out. I’m not expecting any good appointments from him or the Vatican at this point. We are stuck with this situation for some time...unless God has other plans. That’s why it’s going to take a lot of faith and fortitude to remain Catholic...because our shepherds are increasingly not resembling anything close to what our values are. It’s hard...but we’ll still need to be faithful...
Considering what those poor Chinese Catholics are dealing with, we are lucky....but things are changing rapidly.

The priest at Mass today made a bold, strong statement in favor of the Covington school student. He said he saw grace in the face of abuse...he said God radiated from that young man. He is going to post a letter on this soon. He restored my faith in the good priest that are still among us. Thank you good Father...you are a faithful servant!

Beth, Thank you for sharing this with us. Your priest articulated my thoughts very well, "God radiated from that young man". Every time I watched the original video or saw a clip of his interview with Savannah Guthrie, I thought that Nick Sandman must have been placed there by God for that moment. It may not appear that way to him or his family right now but I pray that in the near future they and many other people will realize this. It is refreshing to hear that your priest thinks so and you are correct that he was faithful to state so yesterday from the pulpit. Thank you God for these reassurances.

Carol..I too thought God was placing him there ...at that moment and time for a purpose. What must feel like a nightmare to him, his family and friends, God will use for his purposes. I hope they come to see the greater good in this very soon. Nick didn’t choose this battle, but God allowed it. I think choosing Nick was obviously a good pick!

If He brings you to it, He’ll bring you through it....with our prayers and support. The truth surrounding this is already being revealed.

This homily from a priest is one of the best on the Covington prolife controversy.....how he ties it into our Christian witness is perfect...as Christ as our example! I think you will love it!
