Happy Easter (we are in the octave still!).

This was so encouraging to me as we all go through our own “Good Friday’s” which with faith like Our Lady leads to our “Easter Sunday”. Alleluia.

    Great reflection from Fr. Steve….

Mary on Friday Knew Sunday Was Coming
    By Fr. Steve Ryan, SDB

On Good Friday we remember that the Blessed Mother was confident in the Resurrection.

Happy Easter to all. And Happy Easter especially to the Blessed Mother. Mary, congratulations at your son’s resurrection! Holy Mother Mary, you really are a great example for us. A week before his death you met your son Jesus over in Bethany at the home of Martha, Lazarus and Mary. You prayed with him for courage. You looked in his eyes with pride and gave him a word of needed support. Both of you knew what would be coming the following week. In those days prior to his entrance into Jerusalem, I’m certain you gave him a big hug and told him, “All will be well.” You told him to be confident in the salvific plan of the Father. You told Our Lord with reverence, gentleness and even firmness, that the following Friday was going to be awful yet beautiful for all the souls of the world next Sunday. The two of you embraced on that Palm Sunday morning and off Jesus went into Jerusalem.

Mary, you held back a few days with your cousins Martha, Mary and Lazarus in Bethany and prayed and prayed.

Patriarch Bartholomew wants common date for celebration of Easter
    04.04.2024 03:23

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew has called on Eastern and Western Christians to celebrate Easter together.

That's according to Catholic Culture, Ukrinform reports.

The Patriarch expressed hope that an agreement on a common date could be reached already next year.

"We beseech the Lord of Glory that the forthcoming Easter celebration next year [April 20 on both calendars] will not merely be a fortuitous occurrence, but rather the beginning of a unified date for its observance by both Eastern and Western Christianity," he said.

According to the report, 2025 marks the 1,700th anniversary of the convening of the First Ecumenical Synod in Nicaea that formulated, in particular, the rules for determining the date for Easter. Many years ago, Bartholomew already called the agreement on the common date for Easter an important topic for preparing for the anniversary.

"We are optimistic, as there is goodwill and willingness on both sides. Because, indeed, it is a scandal to celebrate separately the unique event of the one Resurrection of the One Lord," he said.

Easter fell this year on March 31 on the Gregorian calendar, and falls on May 5 on the Julian calendar.

If I am not mistaken, Catholics use the Gregorian calendar and the Orthodox use the Julian calendar to calculate.

Interestingly, if we adopt the Orthodox calculation for the date of Easter, then the date of the celebration of Corpus Christi will also change; after all, the latter always occurs 60 days after Easter.

Well, we use the Gregorian calendar and have, for centuries.

If Easter is unified according to the Gregorian calendar, then will the Orthodox be recognizing papal supremacy, albeit in a "very timid" way?
