Well, my family carried on with our 22-yr tradition yesterday: my wife baked a blueberry cake from picked berries and we all sang Our Blessed Lady, "Happy Birthday"! Not too spiritual, but it was sung with lots of love! Safe in the Hearts of Jesus and Mary!
First Saturdays Devotion I am thinking of starting a First Saturdays Devotion this saturday... Anyone want to do it with me? I am going to try to recruit my husband and Mom too. We all went to Confession last saturday. I think the priest was surprised he had more than 2 confessions before Mass this week! I found this website where you can enter your email and it will REMIND you about the devotion day coming up! http://fivefirstsaturdays.com/ Sometimes I need all the help I can get. Keep that nasty "Stan" from finding a way to distract me. Say does anyone know, if you use the saturday evening Mass for your first Saturday Devotions, can you satisfy both the First Saturday and your Sunday Mass obligations for that week at the same time? In the past, I have always gone to Mass again on sunday anyway, and I personally feel this is the best answer for me when I do first Saturdays Devotion, but I want to be able answer this question correctly for someone else who asks it.
Happy Birthday again, Mary! What a special lady, she gets two birthdays back to back! First on Aug 5, and now the Church's celebration day today. Happy Birthday Oh most Blessed Virgin Mary! Today's Mass OT Reading is also interesting...a meaning for back then, and perhaps now... Micah 5:1-4 The Lord says this: But you, (Bethlehem) Ephrathah, the least of the clans of Judah, out of you will be born for me the one who is to rule over Israel; his origin goes back to the distant past, to the days of old. The Lord is therefore going to abandon them till the time when she who is to give birth gives birth. Then the remnant of his brothers will come back to the sons of Israel. He will stand and feed his flock with the power of the Lord, with the majesty of the name of his God. They will live secure, for from then on he will extend his power to the ends of the land. He himself will be peace. A prophecy, and a prophecy...

So the first Saturday for us went well, we went to church in Green Bay because we were up there for the weekend. This is my husband's first "First Saturday Devotion". I found a great rosary booklet with lenghy discussions of each mystery, takes about fifteen minutes to read through slowly...perfect. So he is using this to start with to help him meditate on the mysteries. Me too, in fact. Next month, I did find some tickets to a Notre Dame Football game!!! It is my Husband's birthday present...on Oct 7 he turns the big 50! This is a dream for him - I got him as close to the 50 yard line as I could reasonably afford (ouch, not really reasonable, very expensive, though better than some I found). SO anyway, the game is on Saturday, Oct 9...and at Notre Dame confessions are heard from 9 till noon on game day. So since it is within the 8 days of the first Saturday in October, we are going to make our confessions at Notre Dame, another first! It is such a special place for us, we will go to Mass in the Basilica on Saturday after the game too, though the first saturday would be the week before, we will make this an extra one and also dedicate it to our Lady. We are staying the entire weekend so will probably go to Mass a couple of times at least. I pray for a special spiritual time for him, and for us, as going there always is, but this one will be so much fun too with the game and all. We always feel God's presence there, and I feel that this is a good thing for us to do on Dave's 50th birthday. I think God is approving, because after I found the tickets, we got an unbelievable deal on a hotel...I was able to find a hotel close by that would accept points reservations on game day, and they still had a few rooms available, and so we are staying two nights almost for FREE! And I didn't make reservations until last week! To stay there and pay for that weekend it would have been over $500.00! It is going to be a wonderful time for us, I can feel it. I feel like it was the right thing to do, to plan aoo thius. I hope he will come away renewed in many ways. Notre Dame, our Mother, Pray for us!!!
