    From Mark 5 – today’s Gospel

There was a woman afflicted with hemorrhages for twelve years.
She had suffered greatly at the hands of many doctors
and had spent all that she had.
Yet she was not helped but only grew worse.

I hope no one was looking at me as this portion from today’s Gospel was proclaimed because a big grin was stretched across my face. You see, our son, Christopher, attends college in Florida and is presently suffering symptoms remarkably similar to shingles. Geralyn was busy with responsibilities that unfortunately kept her from Holy Mass, so she put in a request as I headed out the door:

“Ask Jesus to take care of Chris and to arrange all the details with doctors and finances.”

Since our Sovereign Liege arranges all circumstances perfectly one must admit He has a great sense of humor! Well, things did turn out wonderfully for the woman. Please prayer that Jesus makes everything turn out wonderfully for our Chris. Thanks!

    Safe in the Father’s Arms!

Your post reminds me of the faith of the Centurian (Luke 7:6-10):

He was not far from the house when the centurion sent friends to say to him: “Lord, don’t trouble yourself, for I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. That is why I did not even consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and my servant will be healed. For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”

When Jesus heard this, he was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd following him, he said, “I tell you, I have not found such great faith even in Israel.” Then the men who had been sent returned to the house and found the servant well.

My mom had shingles. Rough stuff! Prayers to Christ for Chris.

Well spotted about the Doctors , Terry.

Praying for Chris and the Shingles, as Deanna says I hear they are awful an aunt of mine used to have them.:(

THe thing that steikes me about the GOspel readings these last few days is how very well they would fit in a movie, I can jsut imagine all the high drama.
One thing I noticed about the lady He cured , Jesus talks about her, 'Condition', which means He refrred to it specificaly as an illness. Now some modern commentators refer to those possed by the deivl whom Jesus fixed as really having just an illness. In fact here this passage shows that Jesus Himself distinguished between illness and possession.

Lest week in the Gospel of the Gaderene swine Jesus we are told , excorcised a person who was possessed by a Legion of demons whom He sent of into a herd of pigs. Now it was quite obvious to me the priest commenting on the sermon did not believe this and was embarrassed by the story. Now it seems to me that anyone not convinced by the reality of evil and the existence of the devil, well he hasn't been out there in the trenches....I don't know priests who kind of write of the devil, wel lthey make me nervous.

Anyhow prayers ofr the shingles at Mass.:)
