OCTOBER 5 : HAPPY BIRTHDAY IN HEAVEN JOEY LOMANGINO !

Today would have been Joey’s 90th birthday. One of the greatest blessing of my life was to meet Joey as a boy, ( receiving a cure from the “Kissed Medal” of our Blessed Mother ) and 20 years later , come to meet him again , work with him as a volunteer everyday at the NY Center, develop a special friendship, and benefit from the spiritual lessons I learned by his teaching and by his living example. He lived his life with humility and humor, and anyone who was lucky enough to know him, was truly blessed, and for that I am eternally grateful.
Isn't it amazing how one blind man, with the help and faith in God and our Blessed Mother, changed so many lives ,around the world
I’m sure Joey looks down upon us surrounded by the Holy family, and Saint Pio. We have another advocate in Heaven to pray to.
I ask all of you to remember Joey and his family in your prayers today. God bless you Joey, your spirit, and your apostolate lives on in all of us, and on this page.

October 6, 2002, SAINT JOSE MARIE ESCRIVA AND GARABANDAL

On October 6, 2002, Pope John Paul II canonized the founder of Opus Dei in St Peter’s Square, Rome, in the presence of more than 300,000 people from all round the world.

The link between St Josemaría Escrivá de Balaguer with the Garabandal apparitions is not well known. In the summer of 1962 he spent a few days of holiday in Suances, Cantabria, during which he visited Garabandal, accompanied by several young men , members of Opus Dei. He spoke cheerfully and profoundly to the girls, an experience they still recall fondly after all these years.
As it happens, news of this visit came out by chance years later when somebody showed the girls a prayer picture for God’s favour through his intercession, printed during his canonization. It was then that the girls joyfully recounted the meeting.
He would not have risked his reputation if he did not believe in the apparitions, and tell others about his trip to talk to the girls. This was also confirmed by Mother Nieves.

OCTOBER 7 : FEAST DAY OF OUR LADY OF THE ROSARY. BELOW,MARY TEACHES THE ROSARY.
    MARY TEACHES THE ROSARY.

In the apparitions of Garabandal, the Virgin would spend so much time instructing the children on how to pray it well. Most notably, She taught the girls how to say that rosary "properly, and slowly", and recited the rosary together during each apparition. Joseph Pelletier writes; "From a series of questions sent to Conchita in April, 1969, it was learned that Our Lady 'ordered - mando' the children to recite the rosary each time they saw her and that they actually did recite it during every apparition.". He later added; "The girls said the rosary in ecstasy as they walked the village streets, entered the homes of the sick, visited the cemetery, and walked around the church....She taught the girls to say all their prayers (and not only the rosary) slowly and thoughtfully. Tape recordings of the girls praying in ecstasy show us exactly what Our Lady wanted from the children and from us. These tapes show the girls praying very, very slowly, articulating each word carefully..." (jp210) Conchita, diary, jp89: "The rosary is a very important part of the Blessed Virgin's message"..."She recited the prayer very slowly--muy lento"Conchita, diary,jp65: "When we arrived at the altar...she started to say the Creed very slowly with the Blessed Virgin. Mari Cruz said that the Blessed Virgin took the lead and recited the prayer first, in order to teach her how to pray slowly. After the Creed, she said the Hail Holy Queen and then she made the sign of the cross very slowly and very properly--muy despcio, muy bien" (The Virgin first taught the girls how to say each prayer individually, before teaching the complete Rosary).

TODAY IN GARABANDAL HISTORY: OCTOBER 7,1962
FEAST OF OUR LADY OF THE HOLY ROSARY AT GARABANDAL

The young visionaries, in ecstasy, cried out in unison: "Viva Santo Domingo que lo (i.e. el "Rosario") ha fundado!" ("Long live St. Dominic who 'founded' the Rosary") as they were reciting the rosary.
This feast of our Lady of the Holy Rosary was highlighted by the magnificent ecstasy of Conchita who ran through the village, while singing the rosary for more than an hour.
According to the visionary “ the rosary is a very important part of the Message of Our Lady at Garabandal”.
    * On that day as well, the Blessed Virgin kissed Loli’s Missal , page by page.

MARI-LOLI AND JACINTA, IN TURN, LEARN OF
THE COMING OF A VERY GREAT MIRACLE
After a month of deprivation because of a new disobedience to her parents, Jacinta began to have ecstasies again. Mary revealed to her, and to Loli that on this October 8, 1962, the two visionaries especially learned of the coming of the future great Miracle that would prove the authenticity of the Messages and the "events" occurring at San Sebastian de Garabandal.

Marl Loli 1977 interview about the timing of the Warning:

    Q. So, the situation in the world is not bad enough for the Warning to happen?
    A. The Warning is not going to happen yet so it's probably going to get worse.

    Q. You said that it would be very difficult for priests to say Mass. Was this something that the Blessed Mother told you or was it something that you thought yourself because of the communist tribulation?
    A. From what I remember, it was something she said.

    Q. And the Virgin said that it would seem as though the Church had disappeared?
    A. Yes.

    Q. Did the Blessed Mother ever say anything about the Holy Father having to leave Rome at the time of the Warning?
    A. No, but what it looked like to me — maybe at this time I was confusing in my mind what I was seeing and what the Blessed Mother was saying to me because it's been so many years — but what it looked like to me was that the Pope couldn't be in Rome either, you know what I mean, out in the open. He was being persecuted, too, and had to hide just like everybody else.

    MORNING OFFERING PRAYER

Our Blessed Mother said in Garabandal on October 18th, 1961,
"We must make many sacrifices, perform much penance, and visit the Blessed Sacrament frequently. But first, we must lead good lives. "

In 1945 Jesus told Lucia, the seer of Fatima, "The sacrifice and penance I now seek and require is the fulfillment of your state in life and the observance of my laws." Whatever your state in life may be you can sanctify all your daily actions if upon arising you recite sincerely the morning offering prayer. Through the "Morning Offering of Reparation" every act you do becomes a sacrifice. The word "sacrifice" means to make "holy." Once you have made your morning offering you make "holy" every act you do throughout the day. Whatever trial God permits to pass your way during the day becomes a penance — whether it be work, bad weather, rebellious children, sickness in the family, tight economic conditions or misunderstandings by relatives or friends. All these sacrifices and penances obtain graces the Blessed Virgin needs for the conversion of sinners.
Padre Pio said it best, "If you knew the value of suffering, you wouldn't give it up."

OCTOBER 12,1961 MARY THROWS DOWN A STAR !
I found a rare reference in my files, that occurred on October 12-13,1961

It was the feast of Our Lady of the Pillar [The feast of Our Lady of the Pillar is on October 12th. It is a great feastday in Spain and Latin America. The religious celebration comes from devotion to Mary through an ancient statue in the great Marian basilica in Saragossa. The statue, because it stands on a column (reputedly part of the column on which Christ was scourged), has received the name of del Pilar. According to tradition, here on the banks of the Ebro River, the first temple was built to honor Mary on the Iberian peninsula, the land of the Mother of God. The civil holiday, both in Spain and Latin-America, is based on the fact that on October 12th, 1492, the Spanish discoverers landed on the American continent. Also on October 12th, the Civil Guard celebrates the feastday of its patron. Juan Alvarez Seco, the chief of the Civil Guard, stated: «On October 12th, while apart from the others, I received the cross to kiss from the four girls, as if it were a congratulation from the Virgin for being the feast of our patron and for having come on that evening to Garabandal.»] during another day of our apparitions, at which Loli and I were present. While we were looking at the Virgin, a star with a very long tail was seen beneath the Virgin's feet. Several people saw this. We asked the Virgin what it meant; but she didn't answer.

To be exact about the time, the phenomenon about which Conchita speaks seems to have occurred not on October 12th, the feastday of Our Lady of the Pillar, but on the beginning of October 13th. But what she writes is easily explainable; since in the determination of time, for the girls the day began on getting up in the morning and ended on going to bed at night; that is, the time during which they were awake. The ecstasies that began on the evening of October 12th extended into the middle of the night. The people began leaving, and toward 2:30 in the morning almost no one remained in the little village plaza except a small group consisting of responsible men: Dr. Ortiz from Santander, Luis Adaro from Gijón, Rafael Sanz Moliner from Oviedo, and Rufino Alonso from Pola de Siero. They had met there, waiting for their wives who had gone to Mari Cruz' home to collect some religious articles that they had entrusted with the girl to give to the Virgin to kiss. Mari Cruz had an ecstasy during which she had gone up to the Pines. There she had prayed a Station to the Blessed Sacrament, and later stopped in the calleja, at the site of the first apparition, where she prayed another Station. The people in the plaza soon saw two of the girls, Conchita and Loli, go under the balcony or terrace connected to the house of Loli's grandmother. They were in ecstasy there and let out a shout at the same time as they raised up their arms.
"We saw the Virgin throw down a star." «Instinctively» — Dr. Ortiz said — "We looked upwards toward the sky, and we saw a star cross from the north to the south (that is, in the direction toward the Pines) with a great brilliance, leaving a trail that lasted several seconds ... I know that Maximina Gonzalez and other women of the village saw the star too. On the contrary some young boys, who were at the entrance of Ceferino's house and who ran toward the girls on hearing the cry, didn't see anything because they were under the balcony like the girls. After the star had passed, we went where the girls were and accompanied them praying toward the church, at whose entrance the ecstasy stopped. Immediately we asked them: — Why did you scream? — Because we saw the Virgin throw down a star. — But you couldn't have seen the star, since you were under the balcony! — Well we certainly saw it. The Virgin did this." Father Valentin mentions this phenomena in his notes: "We were in the plaza. Conchita and Loli shouted out loud with fear. Everyone was frightened. Some of the people looked at the girls; others looked at the sky. Those who did the latter said that they saw a brilliant star that crossed from one part of the sky to another, and that it could not in any way be mistaken for a shooting star or comet. After having screamed, the girls laughed and went on happily, as if dancing with joy." It is understandable that all these things, wrapped like this in a halo of mystery, and probably magnified by being transmitted from person to person, necessarily had to leave the people very impressed. With all these things happening, it would be easy to think: Where will all this end? Surely all these things are an announcement of something great to come. What will we see on the day of the message? "

Mari Loli's letter to a priest Fr. Luis Retenaga from the Basque province of San Sebastián
(The Blessed Mother makes it known the importance of the Rosary, prayers for Priests, sacrifice and suffering.)

Letter to Fr. Retenaga, October 13, 1963

    Reverend Father Luis,
So that you see that I do what I promise, I am
going to tell you a few things . . .

The Virgin has made me know when a priest is in sin. She has helped me to know that he needs many prayers and sacrifices.

Also she has given me to understand the Crucifixon in the Holy Mass, since I comprehend the humility, the sacrifice for the world.

She has also made me recognize when a person needs prayers to be said for him. And one time she told me about a person who didn’t pray the rosary, and that person told me to write a note for him. And in it I wrote down that he should pray the rosary. And he then began to cry and said to me, Who told you that I don’t pray the rosary? And later he wrote and told me that since that day he had not missed saying it.

Well, Father, at another time I will tell you more, because now I am writing from my bed, since tomorrow I have to gather hay in the pasture, which is a long way from the village, and I have to get up early . . .

Today is another day and I am going to see if I have more time to write. Well, I spoke with the Virgin in a locution and asked her to give me a cross to suffer for priests. She told me to bear everything with patience and to be most humble, which was what pleased God the most.

And I said to her, Am I going to die soon? And she said to me, No. You have to remain
in the world to suffer. In whatever place you are, you will suffer.

And I said to her, Let my parents believe!
“Suffer with patience.” And she said to me, They do not believe, so that
you will have more to suffer. Suffer with patience.

She also told me, Pray the rosary every day.
She told me, Pray for priests, since there are some who need more sacrifices for them every day.
And again I said to her, Why don’t my parents believe?
And she said to me, Because you have to suffer. You have much to suffer in this world.
And I said to her, What sacrifices should I make? She said to me, You have to be more obedient.

I told her that one time I was going down the road, and suddenly a man with long hair appeared to me in a long coat, and said to me, “I am hungry”. And as I was carrying my lunch in my hand, I gave it to him. And suddenly he disappeared, without my knowing how. And I was very frightened. And I said to her, Who was that man? And she smiled and didn’t tell me.
I’m not writing more. Don’t say that I don’t say I don’t write much. Goodbye.

Thank you Glenn, thank you so much.

I rarely post anywhere but I've been returning to this thread for some months, the information you provide has always incetived me to learn more about Garabandal, I am fully convinced everything about this is the truth, not only that but it is thanks to Garabandal and to everybody involved that I feel better prepared to face what's coming. It really changed my life and the way I see things, it dissipated several of my doubts, which I am ashamed to have had in first place.

Your posts and information are an eye opener and relevant in the current situation and it's possibly going to become increasingly more relevant in the years to come. I really wished for a while I could have access to any of the blessed sacramentals kissed by the virgin, or to even have the opportunity to visit Garabandal someday, even today I do, but this last post of yours also shows me that I have to bear patiently with my own circumstances, to suffer for others, to be humble, and also to pray for those that lack faith. To pray for the priest, for our Holy Pope, and to remain loyal and obedient to the Church.

Thank you Glenn, I thank God that I got the opportunity to find this thread and to learn about Garabandal, I thank our Heavenly mother for her intercession, and I am also grateful that I could share my time on earth with a faithful and dedicated person like you, God Bless you.
