I just received an email about it myself, may he rest in peace! Begin praying for him and to him, especially cancer patients! Let's make him a saint fast, I am sure God will!
Oh no. What a day. Ian Paisley too. And my own mother died 15 years ago today. It's the feast of the Holy Name of Mary, so....... may be she is involved in this.
I remember when Fr. Rookey came to Whitefriar Street Church some years back. So many people turned up the whole street outside was blocked. With all that it seems Ireland is going through right now, the number of people who were there was staggering. God rest him, he was a great Priest.
While I agree Fr. Rookey was a very holy priest, St. Pio warned the faithful of praying to any particular soul. He said the safest way was to pray to Jesus and ask him to allow the soul's intercession.
Please reference where Padre Pio said this. I think you may be either misunderstanding him or taking him out of context because the Church clearly teaches that you can ask saints to intercede for you (e.g. Padre Pio had a strong devotion to St. Gemma). I think it is clear that Momscalling didn't mean that we should pray to Fr. Rookey as if worshiping him but rather asking him for his help which the Church fully encourages.
You may have misunderstood me, yes the church teaches we can ask the saints to intercede for us, but Fr. Rookey is not a saint yet. How is it clear that Momscalling didn't mean we should pray to him?
I thought that's how souls became saints. Whenever a person prays for someone who led a holy life and has passed and they are prayed to for intercession in a particular matter if miracles are documented then this leads the way to the process of canonization. God Bless!
