How precious of Our Lady to take your Dad to Jesus only after you had arrived! God is so good! Eternal life in the beauty of Your Holiness, grant to him, O Lord!

So here I am, at the bedside of my 89 year old father who has fought the good fight and ran the good race. He has but moments left now as he prepares his soul to meet our Lord.

Of the other 3 deaths of my wife's parents and my own mother a couple years ago, my dad is the only one to have a sound mind at this phase of his life. The others all succumbed to Alzheimer's.

A man of prayer. A leader in many Apostolates , but his and my mother's favorite was their leadership in the Leigon of Mary. A most loving husband and father God blessed our family with.

So much different it was being raised in the 60's and 70's, where your parents taught, not so much by words, but by example. He watch his own dad die at 18 years old via cancer. When my grandpa called each of his children into his room one by one, he told my dad to 'make a man out of yourself' and that he did. When my dad was 16 he was bootlegging drinks for the local doctor, making 50 cents and sometimes a dollar a night (a days wage for the average guy) running for the town doctor who paid a $2000 at the beginning of the year, so he maxed his fine for the year and went on with his side income. I think Grandpa knew what my dad was doing

What a joy now watching him peacefully surrender his last breaths over to the Lord. I know envy is wrong, but i cant help but envy his nearness to heaven.

My dad and I are different in one way for sure. He was a social man. Loved to talk and be with people everywhere. I on the other hand would rather read or enjoy my family, but I cherish the time with others in faith discussions. We do share a love for prayer. He will have the whole town and beyond at his funeral and I, well I hope at least my family

Dad will be in Hospice tomorrow as he is not eating or drinking any longer. I would be thankful if anyone could keep him in prayer, as I know he will keep you all in his when in heaven. May God be glorified through the life of my dad.

I am joyful for him and for you and your family who were privileged to witness a holy death. He will be closer to you now than when with you alive. At least I have found this to be true. There is that there is that pain of separation that never goes away. But also that wonderful assurance of his love and concern shining in Christ's love. I may be wording this badly but I feel very close to my mother and father ev en though it has been 17 years since they went to the Lord. I think you will find some lovely moments coming your way. I call them "postcards"
