Like PF, it took a long time for us to break certain bad habits.... Later on, I used to shoot a sour look when someone would say it. It's like feeling a knife thru the heart. Then I read somewhere that when in company & someone says that, to just say out loud, even if a whisper, "have mercy on us", they get the idea and it turns into a prayer instead of what it was in the first place. To add: I said it alot while watching the movie....
At work if we used foul language we would wind up in trouble. People would not like it. I passed a lady in extreme pain the other week at nighttime who was using the Name of Jesus and calling on Heaven for help, but in a good way. But a week of two later I heard another lady in a similiar situation keep calling out, 'Oh hell!' Which was terrible. I wondered if she ever suspected that Hell might be listening and come into the equation? Scary thought. I think some use of language invokes demons. This may not be intentional, but still.
That is very scary indeed~ it's difficult enough as it is to shoo the "hell dwellers" away, without inviting them for a visit in the first place ~
I worked for a Labor Union for my career, and most of the employees swore terribly around the office which was very difficult for me. It's not just the word, but the attitude of aggression that seems to fill the air when these words are used. One of them used our Lord's name constantly, and I finally asked him if he hated God or just had a very bad habit? He said he had a very bad habit tried hard after that to stop. It's also contagious like yawning. But being there I was praying and blessing them all the time....very stressful!
One thing we notice in Exorcisms is that the Demons seem only to talk in foul, negative language. It is the very opposite of prayer. When I woke up this afternoon I kept thinking of someone who had been avoiding me. I thought maybe she had a negative or hostile opinion towards me. But then a more positive thought came, perhaps I had misintepreted what she was doing? Suddenly I saw things in a whole new light. Much more positively. Then I thought of my retirement in a few weeks and with pleasure that the hospital had offered me a part time job, because they said they did not want to loose me. But then a negative thought came right out of the blue, 'You are happy to take the scraps of their table!' All at once with great starkness the thought came, that this was the voice of the Devil, continuing to push negative thoughts . It was as though I could see the Devil standing right beside me it was so clear. Then I heard the voice of the Devil saying. '''...and you, you leave me to pick the scraps of the table too!' (which was a compliment to me, though he had not intended this) But this is what foul language is like, the total opposite of the atmosphere in a Church. The atmosphere of Hell. If I meet someone who is very, very negative or uses foul language a lot my immediate instinct is to suspect the presence of the Demonic and to avoid them.
Completely agree. It's very difficult sometimes to recognize that insidious talk that pops into one's head at times. There are also people out there who appear to be all rainbows and goodness. But when you speak with them and see their eyes, there's a deep freeze. About a year ago I was at a relative's place; brand new home on a popular local river. Long time neighbours, a married couple, were there. The deep freeze set in ~ as I was leaving I noticed the "big g & compass" plate on the front of their car. Nice as nice could be, but colder than the deepest freeze....
There was a truly great book about this, a best seller by the late M Scott Peck called, 'People of the lie' (Scott was a top head shrinker. ) Dr Peck tells a number of stories about evil people he met in the course of his practice. One story concerns a very successful couple who had two sons one aged 13 and the other 14. The 14 year old son had killed himself by means of a rifle his father had bought him on his birthday. After concerns by his teachers the 13 year old and the parents were brought in to chat. The parents turned out to be total sociopaths pure evil. They only had the kids as social window dressing , now they wanted rid of them. They gave the other kid the same rifle the other boy had died with on his own 14th birthday. https://www.amazon.co.uk/People-Lie-Healing-Human-New-age/dp/0099728605

'Six days I have given you to labor, the seventh I had kept for myself; and they will not give it to me.” It is this which makes the arm of my Son so heavy. Those who drive the carts cannot swear without introducing the name of my Son. These are the two things which makes the arm of my Son so heavy. If the harvest is spoilt, it is all on your account. I gave you warning last year with the potatoes (pommes de terre) but you did not heed it. On the contrary, when you found the potatoes spoilt, 'you swore, you took the name of my Son in vain'. They will continue to decay, so that by Christmas there will be none left.' Our Lady of La Salette
God bless the lady in the video ~ She managed to escape the vicious cycle of "the abused becoming the abuser". Will have to look for that book.
I believe we're headed for a "Grapes of Wrath" scenario. Fasting and abstinence won't exactly be a voluntary mortification in the times we're approaching......but we were warned.
