There's something very interesting, which I've never heard or read of before - Fr Malachi Martin on the Art Bell show, said in response to a question on guardian angels, that one should 'cultivate' his guardian angel by praying to him and asking for his intercession, doing something in his honour, e.g.: saying a prayer in his honour or visiting a church in his honour. Cultivate him and he will talk.
Anyone has any experience with this?

I have heard an anecdote about St Josemaria and his guardian angel, which he apparently treated very closely. When he was a priest in Madrid before the Spanish Civil War (1930s) one day he was stopped in the street by a man who went straight to beat him up but was right away halted by a big guy. The aggressor had to leave, and then the big guy came up to St Josemaria and told him in the ear: "Little donkey! Little donkey!" The saint used to refer to himself "little donkey" in his interior prayer life with the Lord and no other living human being but him knew. The man then walked away disappearing among the people... he understood then it was his guardian angel.

A few days later he told the Lord in prayer: "Here is your donkey" and then heard the Lord say in locution : "A donkey was my throne in Jerusalem".

Send Me Your Angel: Saint Padre Pio and Guardian Angels
St. Padre Pio of Pietrelcina Partnered with People's Angels to Help Them
    [IMG]

Saint Padre Pio of Pietrelcina (1887-1968) often worked through people's guardian angels to help them. An Italian priest who became famous worldwide for his stigmata, mystical miracles, and emphasis on prayer, St. Padre Pio communicated with angelsfrequently. "Send me your guardian angel," he would tell those who asked him for help solving problems in their lives. Here's how Padre Pio sent messages through angels, and some of his quotes about them.

Guardian angels are constantly present with people throughout their entire lifetimes, Padre Pio declared. He wrote in a letter to someone who had asked for prayer, Raffaelina Cerase: "How close to us stands one of the celestial spirits, who from the cradle to the grave never leaves us for an instant. He guides us, he protects us like a friend, like a brother. This should be a source of constant consolation for us, especially during the saddest times of our lives."

Padre Pio said that he was grateful for his own guardian angel's presence in every situation, no matter how difficult the circumstances. During his childhood, he recalled, he had gotten to know his guardian angel through prayer and meditation and developed a close bond of his friendship with his angel. "My guardian angel has been my friend since my infancy," he said.

Many people tend to neglect thinking about their guardian angel companions because the angels are usually invisible (so they don't frighten or distract us). Padre Pio said that he was guilty of neglecting his angel, too, even though he paid far more attention to his angel than most people do. He wrote to Raffaelina that he regretted not thinking of his guardian angel watching him when he gave into temptations to sin: "How many times, alas, have I made this good angel weep! How many times have I lived without the least fear of offending the purity of his regard! Oh, he is so finely mannered, so discreet. My God, how many times did I respond to the ample, more than maternal care of this good angel without any sign of respect, affection or acknowledgment!"

Usually, however, Padre Pio said that his friendship with the angel whom God had assigned to watch over him was a source of great joy and encouragement. He often spoke about his guardian angel having a great sense of humor and said he looked forward to their conversations, which happened most often while Padre Pio was praying or meditating. "Oh delicious intimacy! Oh happy company!" Padre Pio wrote of how much he enjoyed his relationship with his guardian angel.

prayed for them, asking God to bring good purposes out of the bad circumstances they have experienced. "Your tears were collected by angels and were placed in a gold chalice, and you will find them when you present yourself before God," Padre Pio once said.

Padre Pio experienced the intense suffering of attacks from Satan (some of which involved Satan manifesting physically and fighting Padre Pio so hard that the priest had bruises afterward), he said. During those experiences, Padre Pio's guardian angel comforted him, but didn't prevent the attacks because God had allowed them for the purpose of strengthening his faith. "The devil wants to defeat me but he will be crushed," Padre Pio once said. "My guardian angel assures me that God is with us."

the psychic gift of being able to read people's minds, and often brought sins to their attention during confession that they hadn't mentioned to him, so they could fully confess before God and receive forgiveness. But, in the process, many people said he made them feel uncomfortable with his knowledge of sins they had thought were secret.

Since angels communicate through telepathy (directly mind-to-mind), Padre Pio used his gift of telepathy to communicate with them about the people he met in his confessional booth. He would ask the angels questions about the people they cared for so he could understand them well and give them the best advice about how to solve the specific problems they faced. Padre Pio would also ask the angels to pray for the situations that concerned the people he was trying to help.

In the process, Padre Pio relied on his own guardian angel to coordinate all the messages. "Padre Pio's spiritual guidance of souls was mostly done through the help and direction of his guardian angel," writes Father Alessio Parente in his biography of Padre Pio, Send Me Your Guardian Angel: Padre Pio.

Padre Pio's guardian angel even acted as an international translator, those who worked with him reported. Witnesses said he never used a human being to translate the letters he received from people around the world that were written in languages he didn't know himself. He simply prayed for help from his angel, and then was able to understand any letter's message and figure out how to reply to it intelligently.

Guardian Angels Want People to Contact Them
Above all, Padre Pio urged people to stay in close contact with their guardian angels through prayer. Guardian angels are eager to help people on a regular basis as God intends them to do, he said, but too often those angels are disappointed that the people they're trying to serve don't reach out to them for much help. By default, guardian angels don't get involved in human lives unless they're invited to (because of respect for free will) or unless God directs them to intervene to protect people in dangerous situations.

In a letter, Father Jean Derobert, who became chaplain of the famous Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Paris, describes an encounter he had with Padre Pio in which Padre Pio urged him to pray more to his guardian angel: "'Look carefully, he's there and he's very beautiful!' [Padre Pio said]. I turned and of course saw nothing, but he, Padre Pio, had the look on his face of someone who sees something. He was not staring off into space. 'Your guardian angel is there and he's protecting you! Pray heartily to him, pray heartily to him!' His eyes were luminous; they were reflecting the light of my angel."

Guardian angels are hoping that people will contact them -- and God hopes so, too. "Invoke your guardian angel that he will illuminate you and will guide you," Padre Pio advised. "God has given him to you for this reason. Therefore use him!"

This is only something that is tangentially related, but I remember hearing that we should never name our guardian angels. I think it is because they already have a name and it would be disrespectful. I am not sure if that was the exact reasoning why, but I believe it is.

When I was a child I told my mother about a man who kept visiting me while I was outside playing. A childhood fancy? Perhaps. I don't remember it but she told me that I told her that he told me his name was Sam, he wore a suit and that he told me not to worry and that everything was going to turn out alright. I wish I had grown up taking those words to heart.
I believe that my guardian angel has intervened several times at key junctures in my life and has helped to alter the course of it by doing so. I think that all our guardian Angels do this in some form or another.
In the missal of the SPPX there are morning and evening prayers which are prayers to our Guardian Angel. They are a bit child like but I say them because I heard some time ago a YT video of Father Ripperger who instructed people also to cultivate their relationships with their guardian Angels like Saint Pio did. They are sent to help and protect us. If you think about it, after a lifetime of watching over us they probably know us better than we think we know ourselves. I would think that we must always seem like children to them no matter how old we are.
Sometimes, I have experiences that I think are mystical. They started when I came to the Truth. I see what I think is the Holy Ghost around people especially at the Sacrifice of the Mass. Not always, but sometimes it is very pronounced. About a month ago, I was at Mass and was distracted by someone sitting in front of us across the isle. I wasn't sure why at first because I could not see this person well but my attention kept being drawn there. It looks exactly like the old paintings of a halo around a Saint (although it is not usually as bright) with the one exception being that it encompasses their shoulders as well often times and almost seems like a vapor when they move.

    Sainte_therese_de_lisieux.jpg

At any rate, the light coming off of this person was incredibly bright. So bright that I couldn't help but look at them but I could hardly manage it. I think it was an Angel. I have never seen anything like it. It made me very happy to see this at Mass.
I looked for this person when Mass let out and I could not find them.

I can confirm that an elderly lady friend of mine, several months before her death, was alone in her home reading her Bible and an angel comforted her, saying those words: everything is going to be all right.

    The Chaplet of Divine Mercy

The Lord said to Blessed Faustina:
"You will recite this chaplet on the beads of the Rosary in the following manner:"

First of all, you will say one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and the I Believe In God.

Then: On the Our Father Beads you will say the following words:

Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.

On the Hail Mary Beads you will say the following words:

For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

In conclusion ThreeTimes you will recite these words:

Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world. (Diary, 476)

Our Lord said to Blessed Faustine:

Unceasingly recite this chaplet that I have taught you. Whoever will recite it will receive great mercy at the hour of death ... Priest will recommend it to sinners as their last hope of salvation. Even the most hardened sinner, if he recites this chaplet even once, will receive grace from My infinite mercy (687) ... Oh, what great graces I will grant to souls who will recite this chaplet (848) ... Through the chaplet you will obtain anything, if what you ask for is compatible with My will (1731) ... I want the whole world to know My infinite mercy. I want to give unimaginable graces to those who trust in My mercy (687).

    Speak, Lord . . . Your Servant Listens +++

Prayer is, in the strictest sense, a humble religious petition of man to God to seek divine benevolence and benefits he needs for life, both temporal and eternal. It is a conversation with God, either by accepted prayer forms, or from the heart. Here, then, in conversational verse, is a hypothetical talk the Lord might have with us, His children..........

It is not necessary my child, to know much in order to please me much; it is enough that you love me fervently. Speak here to me then, as you would speak to your most intimate friend, to your mother, to your brother.

So, you want to ask me to do something for someone? Tell me his name. Is it your parents, your brothers, your friends? Tell me what you want me to do for them now. Ask much, very much: do not hesitate to ask. I love generous hearts who somehow can come to forget themselves to look after the needs of others. Speak sincerely to me then, of the poor you would console, of the sick you see suffering, of the strayed you yearn to see return to the right path, of those absent friends you want at your side again. Say at least one word for each, the ardent word of a friend. Remind me that I have promised to listen to every petition that arises from the heart, and is not a prayer for those whom your heart especially loves such a pray?

And for you: do you need a particular favor? Make a list, as it were, of your needs, and come and read it in my presence.

Tell me frankly that you are prone to anger, that you love sensuality and pleasure, that you are perhaps proud, variable, negligent . . . Ask me to come to the help of those efforts, many or few, which you undertake to free yourself from these faults.

Do not be ashamed, poor soul; there are in Heaven so many saints who had these same defects; but they prayed humbly, and little by little they saw themselves freed from them.

Do not hesitate to ask Me for spiritual and material goods; for health, memory, success in your work, enterprises and studies; all these I can give and I do give -- as long as they do not hinder, but rather assist your sanctification. Precisely today, what do you need? What can I do for you? If only you knew how much I would like to help you!

Do you have, right now, some project in mind? Tell me everything in detail. What preoccupies you? What are you thinking? What do you want? What do you want me to do for your parents, your brothers, your children, your superiors? What would you want to do for them?

And for me, do you feel an attraction for my glory? Do you not want to do something for those friends whom you love much but who perhaps live separated from me?

Tell me what in particular attracts your attention today, what you desire most ardently and what means you have of obtaining it? Tell me if your plans are not working and I will tell you the causes of your difficulties. Do you not want to interest me in your quest? My dear one, I am the Lord of hearts and I move them, without violating their freedom, to wherever I please.

Are you perhaps sad, or in bad humor? Tell me, tell me, you inconsolable soul, tell me your sorrows in all their details. Who wounded you? come close to my Heart, and find in it a refreshing balsam for the wounds in yours. Then, you will confess that, like me, you forgive everything, you forget everything. In appreciation, you will receive my consoling benediction.

Are you perhaps afraid? Do you feel in your soul those vague stirrings of sadness which, however unjustified, can be so tearing? Throw yourself in the arms of my Providence. I am with you. I am at your side. I see everything. I hear everything. I shall not abandon you for one moment.

Do you feel ignored by persons who loved you once but who now have forgotten you without cause? Pray from them and I will bring them back to you if they are not obstacles to your salvation.

And don't you have, perhaps, some joy to communicate to me? Why don't you let me share it with you, like a friend?

Tell me what has consoled and gladdened your heart since yesterday, since you last visited me. Perhaps you have had an agreeable surprise; perhaps you have seen grave doubts dissipated, or you have received good news -- a letter, or perhaps a gesture of love. Maybe you have overcome some difficulty, or come out of a trying situation. All of this is my work. I have obtained this for you. Why not show me your gratitude and say, like a child to its father, "Thank you, my Father, thank you." Gratitude brings forth new gifts since benefactors, as you know, like to see themselves appreciated.

Do you not have a promise to make to me? I read, you know, the bottom of hearts. Men are easily deceived, but not God. Speak to me, then honestly; do you have firm intentions of avoiding the occasion of sin? Of denying yourself that object that harmed your soul? Of not reading again that book which excited your imagination? Of avoiding that person who disturbed the peace of your soul?

Will you be kind to that person who, because he offended you, you have regarded as an enemy?

And now, my child return to your work, to your office, to your family, to your studies -- but do not forget these fifteen minutes of intimate conversation we have had in the privacy of the sanctuary. Keep as much as possible, silence, resignation, modesty, charity towards your neighbors. Love and honor my Mother, who is also your Mother. And please come again tomorrow with an even more fervent heart, to unite it to mine. In it you will find every day new love, new gifts, new consolation. Here I await you.

I went on a retreat a few yers back with Opus Angelorum and Fr Wolfgang explained the Church does not permit it because the only angel names we know are the ones given in scripture. To “name” another angel even Our Guardian Angel runs the risk of “naming” a demon and summoning it. Only God named the angels. I think Fr Ripperger also explains this.

I’ve had special experiences with my guardian angel. I can remember playing up to 3 1/2 years old with an imaginary friend. For many years I believed he was a figment of my imagination. But I know now he wasn’t, I believe he was my guardian angel. And I remember the last day he played with me and made me laugh. I just can’t remember how he looked like. I remember sitting at Church before mass with my fiancé and asking the Lord to give me a sign that he was the right person for me. Suddenly a sweet old lady sat next to me, and leaned towards me to say how handsome my fiancé was and how very fortunate I was to have him. Then she got up and left the Church. It took me a few seconds to figure out that she was my angel. I ran outside to find her, but she disappeared. And on another occasion, my angel saved me from a tragic car accident. I was speeding trying to get to an appointment, and got distracted by looking at a statue of the Virgin Mary inside somebody’s car, and I didn’t notice the car that stopped ahead of me. I rammed right into the car going 35 miles an hour. Nothing happened, not one scratch. The driver of the car I hit couldn’t believe it either. And when I had my first child in the hospital, I get a visit late at night from a nurse. I was sleepy, but I was amazed with the light that surrounded this nurse. I remember feeling so special, and so joyful that I almost cried. She told me everything was going to be alright too. The next morning I asked for this nurse, but nobody on the floor knew who she was. I described her long brown hair, but there were no nurses with that description. Angels are always with us.
