WHOA! I just watched a lady on board this vessel do a podcast on FB from her room the other day. Maybe 3 days ago and heard the Captain over the intercom state there were (if I remember correctly) 136 cases on board with an increase that day of 66. This is an incredible increase in infections in such a short time. Why are they insisting on leaving these people on board this ship. I say this because I worked on a factory trawler in Alaska waters and it was a relatively small vessel with maybe 140 people on board hot swapping bunks at the peak of our season. When a flu hit or a cold it was a matter of a few days before literally everyone had it. I think because of the ventilation system (think Legionnaires disease) and single point of contamination for food at the galley.

My God what are these people thinking.

Agreed, it is his choice but I do support his decision to leave it.

Accusing the USA of a bioweapon attack on China is preposterous, given that 1) China was working on this virus in their lab within walking distance of the wet market, 2) international scientists have warned for several years that the protocols and practices of China’s level 4 biohazard lab in Wuhan were insufficient to prevent escape of these viruses, 3) the Chinese scientists at the Wuhan lab previously worked at an American lab learning the techniques to create this bioengineered strain, 5) the same scientists are published numerous times in the scientific literature reporting on exactly the type of research to create the type of coronavirus in this outbreak 5) there are documented cases of SARS accidentally escaping from Chinese labs already, and 6) Chinese scientists have already established it came from this Wuhan lab (even though they’ve since been forced to delete this study and it’s only available via web archive now.)

Occam’s razor, also called law of economy or law of parsimony, principle stated by the Scholasticphilosopher William of Ockham (1285–1347/49) that pluralitas non est ponenda sine necessitate, “plurality should not be posited without necessity.” The principle gives precedence to simplicity: of two competing theories, the simpler explanation of an entity is to be preferred. The principle is also expressed as “Entities are not to be multiplied beyond necessity.”

To be quite honest, this virus is so potent and effective that, well, if you're going to get it, you're going to get it.

I recommend prayer and sacramentals, really. Prayer and trust in God. This virus is just crazy. Very, very powerful indeed. You could go and live in a cave up the mountains somewhere, but who wants to live in a cave up the mountains?

I'm afraid this one is a case of its meant for you it won't go by you.

  7. Looks a bit overkill, but does it work? I mean if you're wearing it all the time and you're still here....that's a sign.....ha!

I told the guys in A&E reception the other night that they are our front line troops, that they might have heavy casualties but that we were counting on them. They gave me sickly smiles.

Reminded me of an old episode of MASH.

    Anyone remember MASH?

Cruise ships are giant Petri dishes under the best of circumstances. Three years ago I was on a similar cruise off the coast of japan and the whole ship was sick with "community acquired pneumonia" including me. Like legionnaires disease I think. I lost my interest in cruise ships after that. I felt lucky to be alive. That's the sickest I have been in a very long time.

I thought a few years ago to take my wife on a cruise but with my compromised immune system the idea died a sudden death.
