    MS7,
I toyed with the idea on whether or not I should allow them to watch the Passion the first year...they were not forced to watch the entirety, but they did get a glimpse, the first few strikes were enough for their little hands covered the eyes more on than off, they left at their own free will. I did not act forecefully nor act righteous in an overbearing manner. I am not making any excuses for what I did, I think it was wrong, even a glimpse of extreme violence was uneccessary for any reason.
I do not believe in spanking at all, taking away freedom, removal for a period of time based on the childs age is enough...ie age 2 , 2 minute removal and so forth.
I have never introduced SaTan, evil to them, nor hell ...

They do not watch violent shows but shows that are age appropriate. Speaking of dinosaurs, my youngest daughter at home around the age of 3 possibly, we were watching some show with dinosaurs and I told her that the dinosuars were extinct..she quickly summoned her father and said , "Did you hear Dad ?" Dinosaurs STINK! LOL
    I in turn explained ...
My favorite shows were Art Linkletter and Bill Cosby as they asked kids questions and their remarks and/or generalizations made..kids always have an answer to everything and adults too..it just cracks me up.
Pedigree, was one of my favorites, I asked my high school students to jot down on a piece of paper what pedigree meant and turn it in for bonus points one day. I was teaching sign language at the time.

I laughed so hard as read their papers to myself, dog food and the funniest answers ever..only one student out of 30 got it right. It has been 15 years so I cannot recall what all they said and I should have kept their papers.
Laughter is the best medicine or should I say , to find humor and joy, to carry our cross in silence, refrain from using the tongue as a razor blade(in thought as well, to look at life through the eyes of a child.
Back to what this forum is all about, I must study the missal and discipline myself to give my children a daily dose in a captivating mode so they can learn as they are entitled to, walk the talk get off the net.
I want to thank you all so much for your assistance in steering me in the right direction

  2. Well, it sounds like you are a better mother than I. I do believe in spanking, and did believe in pinching in church until my loudmouth five year old daughter yelled, "HEY! THAT HURT MOM! DON'T PINCH ME OR I'LL PINCH YOU BACK!" With all the snickers in church, I almost wanted to beat her...for my own embarrassment...
So, we are down to the last two kids and they don't know what a spanking is. The others just shake their heads and say, "Mom and dad are getting lazy..." but seriously, we have done things different with these last two. Wish we were smarter sooner! I tell my others that therapy is cheap and if they need me to come talk to their therapist, I'll be glad to tell MY SIDE of the story!(y) Love, love, love because the world won't love them like you can and they will always come back to love. Humor is the BEST medicine--I agree. It takes away the pain and dulls the bad memories.

Anyone else as excited as I am to watch this whole Pope election starting tomorrow? Thank God for bringing Mother Angelica into this world and starting EWTN. Scary but also very exciting times in our Church.

:ROFLMAO: Kids are very trying sometimes...
Oh , I have dug my nails into the top of some of my kids heads or arm, when they misbehaved or embarrassed me as well...lol
My best friend whom died from breast cancer years ago used to carry a wooden spoon in her purse..I warned her kids if she ever spanks you, summon me , I will come to protect you, LOL she used to hit me too, it seemed at the time she was always pregnant and I could not get her back!! She was so much fun! We had water fights all the time, her kids were unruly..I wonder why:whistle:
My mother whipped us all the time and kicked us under the table..I made a promise to myself to not ever hit mine!
It just mad me madder, I was a rebel in nature anyway.

Awaitwithjoy and Mothersuperior7 I am really enjoying your chat about your kids. I only have one (age 9) and he is both the greatest blessing and the greatest cross of my life (I'm not sure sometimes in which order). Last Easter he said he wanted to watch The Passion so I put on the DVD... well, he lasted as far as the part where Jesus falls to his knees in the Garden of Gethsemane (about 90 seconds into the movie?) before fleeing the room in distress. Maybe I'll have better success this year... I'm selective about what I tell him, though, because young minds are so incredibly impressionable. It's hard to know what's the right thing to do sometimes...

    Adoremus,
Yes, boys are more trying when they are younger it seems and the girls as they hit the teen years!
My son is very much like me, a rebel at home and spaced. He and I walk in circles whilst the girls are extremely organized and achieve more... But I have forever gotten complements on their behaviour in public as the best well behaved children ever ...all the teachers have told me they would love to have a classroom full of mine!
My mother was OCD and still is.., her floors are so clean one can eat off of them, she required perfection at all times and we had to wax her floors by hand on our knees and more! WE grew up outside , if we were in it was clean time, shoes off and hands washed! The furniture even had plastic coverings...ugg
It was so bad that my childhood friends still remember all the times i would get into trouble if I got one drop of water on her cabinet or floor! :cautious:
So, I rebelled even further as I go older and it effected my adulthood, I did keep my house very clean but there came a point where I decided..that the house will always be there and we are going to have fun instead, so my home is very kid friendly. My mother is in her 80's now, she cannot do too much anymore but for me to go and assist ..I am waiting until she is limited to one room for it will not be good enough. In saying this, I feel terrible( this black cloud hangs over me) and my oldest sister goes and helps her for she too is OCD, in fact all my siblings are. They can show their home at all hrs of the day, for myself, I request you give me a days notice before you can visit or at least a few hrs!

I used to worry all the time about my house being clean and then realized that I was stressing myself out so I adopted this motto: "My house is clean enough to be healthy and dirty enough to be happy." (But an hour's notice before visiting would be nice :))
