BEIJING—Concerns about a deadly new strain of bird flu intensified Friday as the disease claimed a sixth life in eastern China and agricultural authorities in Shanghai ordered a wide-scale slaughter of poultry in an effort to stem its spread.
For heaven's sake, there was a russian official who came out and said the meteor was a U.S. weapons attack, they will say anything. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs...r-says-meteor-was-actually-a-u-s-weapons-test
It appears to be spreading. The difficulty with this strain is that the birds who carry it don't get sick thesmelves, the great sign, in the past of the presence of the illness.. Also the very high mortality rate, few enough people ave contracted this yet already 11 have died.
Every flu originates in an animal host....pigs, birds, cattle, etc....ultimately it mutates and jumps species and enters into a human host....avian flu is highly virulent especially when it initially jumps species....although I believe any country has the power to do this as biological warfare, this issue has been occurring since the dawn of time
It looks like it has, somehow jumped http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/04/17/us-birdflu-china-idUSBRE93G04B20130417
This one is a real worry - not since 1918 have we had a serious world wide pandemic - the Spanish flu then took out four members of my family in a 2 year period.
I don't know if you remember Bobby, but a few years back when this first emerged they thought they had this virus eradicated. Then the former Director of Disease Control in the USA , who at the time was retired gave a media interview. He was asked which was the greatest threat he had ever encountered in his time as Director. He said, 'We really dodged the bullet with bird flu. If that had spread we would have been in big trouble'. Later of course it came back, but he had let the cat out of the bag about how big a threat this is. Our Lady of All Nations in Amsterdam in 1945 foretold this.

a flu pandemic is devastating to any nation. As a school nurse, I can tell you witnessing the H1N1 a few years back was scarey enough. Kids would go from healthy to 104 degrees F in one hour....I then came down with it and was incapacitated for weeks. The problem with the flu is it is contagious through respiratory droplets....If you touch a contaminated object with someone else's respiratory droplets (a doorknob, a grocery cart handle) and touch your eye or mouth or nose, you have a portal of entry... Has anyone ever watched the movie Contagion????? quite scarey indeed....The average person touches their own face 3 to 5 times per minute....you do the math on how fast things can spread....Try to stop yourself from touching your face....it's hard!
Well the World Health Organisation isn't sitting on their hands, they are giving daily updates: http://www.who.int/csr/don/en/index.html
ha ha, Sorry, I know it is a serious thing. It caused a huge scare here. My daughter has brittle asthma (carrys a steroid card and has a fast track card for A+E, shows it and gets seen to straight away) she is on heavy medication, so a normal flu scares me, never mind the above. I couldn't resist the joke, makes things a little easier to digest.
I am afraid that you will soon be hearing about this all over the place on mainstream media even if you don't want to. Today's Financial Times.
