I saw no naivete. What I saw was a man from National Catholic Register (owned by the same people who own Catholic Answers) brought in by EWTN to gloss over what appears to be a strategy adopted by the Vatican to put distance between the Pope and McCarrick. By claiming it's purely an American problem, they avoid answering questions about McCarrick's role in the China deal, they avoid answering questions about a co-ordinated, universal strategy of flooding the seminaries, priesthood and episcopacy with practising homosexuals, and they avoid answering any questions about the St. Gallen Mafia's colluding to change Church teaching by installing a Pope committed to pursuing their agenda. Ed Condon can't be unaware of the allegations about Pope Francis protecting sexual predators in Argentina. Raymond Arroyo prefaced his question about the Argentinian Bishop by saying that Pope Francis dispensed with protocol when promoting that man to the episcopacy. Ed Condon's response was that popes don't have all the details about names submitted to them for promotion. That Pope Francis dispensed with protocol suggests that the man wasn't just a name handed to him by someone else. His claim that some Bishops in the US genuinely didn't know about McCarrick and the seminarians is a joke. That they didn't know McCarrick had abused minors is believable, but the birds in the trees were tweeting about McCarrick and seminarians. I don't believe for a second that Pope Francis wasn't aware that the Argentinian priest he made a Bishop during the first year of his pontificate was a practising homosexual preying on seminarians, because since the day Francis took office he has promoted practising homosexuals and has done everything he can to make a mockery of the Catholic belief that all people, especially priests, are called to practice chastity. It looks to me that Ed Condon is on board with the Vatican's strategy of confining the discussion on sexual predators to the problem of paedophilia which, thanks to secular authorities, Pope Benedict and Cardinal Muller, the Church has made real progress in eliminating from the priesthood. It looks to me that both Catholic Answers and EWTN are expecting Fr. Rossica's "trust" list to become official Vatican policy, and they're making sure they will pass muster with Tornielli. Mother Angelica must be turning in her grave. I wonder what Patrick Coffin makes of Catholic Answers now. Marshall and Gordon should be ok. Theirs is mainly an American audience and Americans value freedom of speech. Any attempt by the Vatican to muzzle them will boost their viewer/readership. They might have problems if the Vatican does a deal with Google over some definition of hate speech. Does having a channel on youtube bring in a lot of money? Who knows whether Google will go down the road of banning faithful Christians from youtube. If they do, Christians will just have to find an alternative.
Did you notice the exchange of looks between Raymond Arroyo and Robert Royal at the end of the interview. I think Royal and Arroyo tried to stop Condon by having counter answers ready. But it is true Condon is a hitman for the cover up Church establishment. I am very alarmed that they were able to neuter EWTN so quickly and efficiently. But money and power always seems to go with the devil. Still; despite obvious pressure EWTN has not given up.
Just watched the latest World Over and was not impressed. Not an Edward Condon fan. I don't want to jump to conclusions, maybe Fr. Murray was just sick this week or something, but I find it odd that they didn't even mention him or that Mr. Condon was just filling in.
I just went to Fr. Mark's site and saw that his latest video "appeal to the Pope" has now been removed also.
I said in my previous post that the National Catholic Register is owned by Catholic Answers. That's incorrect. It's owned by EWTN, as is Catholic News Agency. I should have calmed down before writing my previous post. The Register and EWTN are still among the best sources of Catholic News and analysis. We need to give them the benefit of the doubt. At least they aren't subjecting us to the "nothing to see here; trust the Bishops and Vatican" stuff which is the vibe I get from CA. Ed Condon's silly reply to the question about Pope Francis omitting the Sign of the Cross from the papal blessing was the last straw for me. Earlier in the week I had watched a Vaticano programme singing the praises of the AVSI Foundation: https://www.avsi.org/en/news/2018/1...ering-who-you-are-you-can-go-everywhere/1634/ The AVSI Foundation does some good work but I don't think that's enough for a Catholic TV Station to devote a whole programme to promoting it when there are plenty of solidly Catholic charities which could benefit from support from EWTN. Next day I watched Fr. Pacwa interview the author of a book about bad shepherds in the history of the Church. When I heard their response to the question about China I was tempted to throw my shoe at the TV. Maybe if I hadn't already been so annoyed with EWTN, I would have been more charitable towards Ed Condon.
Catholic Answers is very good if you want to know something about an obscure line from some book of the Bible or some medieval Church reference, but if you want to know anything at all about what is currently going on in the Church don't even bother. The answer is always some form of "There's nothing to see here..." They know who signs their paychecks.
Indeed. I've been following a thread about capital punishment on their forum. One poster there is being bullied disgracefully because the bullies cannot give a straight "yes" or "no" answer to straightforward questions he asked. And the ringleader of the bullies seems to be a Catholic priest and theologian who likes to let everyone know how learned and well connected he is. I don't think I've ever seen such a display of arrogance. I think he's European - that kind of name dropping is more typical of Europeans, especially older Europeans, than Americans. There have been blatant attempts to get the person voicing the minority opinion banned, and numerous attacks on him and his motives because the bullies have failed abysmally in their attempts to dismiss his arguments. No wonder Jesus chose fishermen.
Very sad, but this is the future. Those who cling to the Teachings of the Church will be attacked from within. We have been told this for centuries from the Scriptures, Catechism, prophecies, and apparitions. Only a remnant will be left while the many (most?) in the Church apostatize.
Yes, wasn't it Bishop Fulton Sheen who said that the persecutors will say they are doing God's work? People often link that to Muslims, especially since the rise of Islamic extremism, but I always had the sense that when our persecution comes the persecutors will have been baptised. Prior to the election of Pope Francis, I had never seen such slip-sliding and evasiveness from Catholic bishops, theologians and apologists. It's downright embarrassing.
