I would take this with a grain of salt. They are allegations of a Vatican correspondent, it is his opinion as he doesn't say what they are based on, so anyone could just state the same - rumors. That's how fake news are started - a rumor becomes news. What is the goal? Could be to pressure pope Benedict or Francis, I personally feel remarks like these are ill motivated because they feed division within the Church and don't solve anything. I doubt the very prudent Benedict would like to see them into the open , even if they were true. And what they allege is something we all know anyway, as we know pope Benedict confirmed the magisterium on the divorced and remarried, which is contrary to pope Francis new development, so nothing new there.
