Below is a link to a documentary about a young man called Aaron McCormick from Macosquin near Coleraine in the north of Ireland - a British soldier killed in Afghanistan on remembrance day 2010. I normally don't watch programmes like this but there was little on TV last night and started watching it and it was fascinating but very sad - war is a terrible thing and leaves such pain in its path. Before he left for his second spell in Afghanistan Aaron told is friends of his real concern that he would not come back alive and indeed he was killed on that tour. Before he left he went to his local Church of Ireland parish church in the village and asked for baptism and was baptised by the minister. One might call this a real baptism of desire - a wonderful grace and entry into the kingdom of God. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01772j0/Remembering_Aaron/
I must watch this. I watching a programme about the British Military Officer training school at Sandhurst a while back and noticed how some candidates are pulling out because they are afraid to go. I heard thorugh the grapevine that casualties our there are much, much worse than anyone is willing to admit. I suspect that before death we all of us get some kind of tap on the shoulder warnig us to get set, wether or not we are conscious of this or not. I will pray for the souls of all who are to die violently today, so very, very many... ]
