I think I am called to give rosaries and prayerbooks to fallen away catholics. When I find them open to conversation about the faith, I bring them a care package stuffed with sacramentals. They are usually pleased. Everyone likes presents. I seem to turn people off when I discuss my faith. I am really intense. This works better I think.
This is one of my (many) gripes also. At the mass I attended last Sunday (Divine Mercy Sunday) a woman's mobile phone rang. She quickly fumbled in her handbag and I assumed she was rushing to silence the thing. But no, she answered it and then proceeded to carry on a conversation in the side aisle, up near the sanctuary. This was during the first reading. While the Psalm was being sung, the woman who was doing the mass readings had to gesture to the mobile phone lady to go away because she was distracting her. Truly unbelievable. People really are oblivious.
Actually, I think you are the brave soul, not me. Generally speaking, I think it's part of the Asian culture here where I live, that people still respect lives, even when the lives are of the disabled, mentally unsound, terminally ill etc. I cannot imagine a nurse here doing what your colleague did to you.
