Alert: Volcano eruption in La Palma could result in mega-tsunami

As is the state of Hawaii. The big island, Hawaii, is the oldest and has been building in size the longest time. As you follow the chain to the northwest, the islands become smaller, because they're newer.

 

Why? All the land around there slopes towards the west, so unless a fissure opened up on the eastern side of the ridge, all the lava there will flow downhill towards the west.

 

I have just one word to say when people so blithely talk about the Earth's axis shifting:

Inertia.

The earth is one huge spinning top. You may have done experiments in school with gyroscopes; how when you get one spinning it takes a significant amount of force to get it to tip over. Same with the earth. Tipping the earth so that the axis still revolves around the North Pole while pointing at something other than the Northern Star is a non-trivial task.

Let's go back to the inertia I mentioned earlier. It's not just the earth spinning. The earth is dragging along all this dirt, water, and air as it spins around its axis. Changing the earth's axis will NOT immediately change all that material being dragged along for the ride. As an example, the earth's rotational speed at the equator is 1,000 miles per hour (1670 kilometers/hour). The rotational speed changes depending on how close you move towards the poles -- I think the rotational speed at New York is about 500 mph. Changing the direction of the earth's axis will NOT immediately change the direction of all the air being pulled along. IOW, people at the equator can expect to experience 1,000 mph windstorms going in the direction the earth HAD been spinning, for however long it takes to get the atmosphere to adapt to the new rotational direction. People at the same latitude as New York will experience 500mph winds. These winds are going to be taking along trees, dirt, busses and smaller autos, etc. at those speeds.

In short, the damage from the atmosphere adapting to the new axis will be far, FAR greater than any simple tsunami. Think worldwide tornado.

I am suspicious of "Luz de Maria Bonilla" because the mention of La Palma follows the eruption, instead of preceeding it. I got burned with "Locutions to the World. " , a commentary on the news cycle
