This is an AI painting that was at the retreat center. Of course it was not signed, but people would stop and pause looking at it. They loved it. It’s about three feet wide. It gave me pause because it was created with artificial intelligence. Not one human creative, but a collection. So, how do we know where all the input comes from? It tells me that people can easily be deceived by perception and manipulation. Or am I digging too deep?
It’s becoming more difficult to see in today’s world. We are so manipulated through fakeness. For those who love AI, can they so easily be deceived on what is real beauty? Can they be convinced so easily that something is real? How will they respond to the anti/Christ if they are so easily deceived? I feel this is a premonition of what is to come, how wonderful the arguments will seem, the logic used, for the deceiver to win our souls from God. It bothers me that so many people loved this painting, and yet, it shows Jesus turning his back on the world and walking away from it. It shows Jesus walking to the light. BUT, Jesus Is the light. He would never walk away from us. This painting is the opposite of Jesus, and yet souls were drawn to it, mesmerized by it. It was hanging in the conference room, also the room where we held Mass. Satan is moving in and buyer beware. My humble thoughts for the day.
Yes, I absolutely agree. My first thought when I looked at that painting was where are Peter and the Apostles? Why is Jesus walking on water to no one? AI has no idea the significance of all of the paintings it pulled from to piece together that one. Art has never just been about making something pretty to look at. People create art out of awe or love, to share with others something beautiful, to tell a story or teach a truth, or bring honor to the subject of their art. They are responding to something beautiful that God is or made, and desiring to cooperate with God in representing it in the special way only that person can. God has a unique relationship with each of us and works through us in different ways to bring Himself to the world...hence the many different expressions and styles of art. It is wonderful to look at a painting of Jesus and not only love Jesus through it, but recognize the style of the art and say, "Ah! This must be Caravaggio's work!" Caravaggio, then, continues to bring glory to God in the way only he could, and God is pleased with His own creation: Caravaggio. There is no such thing in AI "art." A soulless machine smashes humanity and its work into a nameless collective and churns out images devoid of soul and meaning. It has no desire to bring glory to God. It is pure efficiency and usury of the collective man. It is yet another face of communism.
I love to pray along with the People and Priests at Lourdes on youtube, and nothing brings me more comfort than seeing our Mother's statue there in the rock. Why would I give permission to an empty vessel to make new pictures of the ones I love the most?
I agree that AI can produce soul less images but with a bit of care and creative input from a human being using the medium it's also possible to produces images which express scenes which may not have been done before. For instance, I thought the image above of Our Lady wrapping our war torn world in her mantle of maternal protection was quite well done (apart from the number of stars surrounding Our Lady). Perhaps the lack of understanding can also be on the part of the one using the resource.
Dave, it doesn't bother me that others use AI images of our Lord and our Blessed Mother, I personally don't care for it. You guys keep posting your pics. It may not be my cup of tea but if you like it and get joy from it, that is cool. I don't like to rain on anyone's parade, So put your umbrellas away. ⛱️ I am turning into my mom.
Fascinating that our discussion takes place at a time when there is a mini-panic taking place in AI stocks in the financial markets today. Executives have suggested that the pace of advancement in AI might outstrip the ability of humans to control it! "Over the last few months, I have become convinced that fully addressing the risks requires even more prudence — not just investing in risk prevention, but pacing the rate of capabilities advancement so that risk prevention has time to keep up", CEO Amodei stated! How many sci-fi movies have been made in the last 30 years based on this premise?!
Yes, the wider implications of AI are worrying. The execs of various tech companies were saying just yesterday that control of this resource needs to keep pace with it's rapid and potentially dangerous development. Trump, before he left Co. Clare yesterday, was asked about the concerns being raised. He more or less said it's fine, these people don't know what they're talking about and just trying to cause trouble. I think his bottom line is that as long as the USA stays ahead of China in the world of AI, all will be well. I'm not so sure. The concerns that this could be a potential Frankenstein monster with a life of it's own, might not be unfounded. Please God that will not be the case.
