Padraig, it might be a real blessing to be out of the hospital at this time. Praying for you. I’m like AED, I retired from teaching and never looked back. I also like that garabandal has come to a decision about his own retirement.
I’ve read several articles this past year that confirm many , many workers have either left or are planning to leave their current employment. I believe I’ve seen percentages in range of 50% and this is not just folks who are a few years away from retirement. We are seeing people in 30-40s in their mid-careers deciding to just stop working at their current company. If there is a silver lining to this pandemic, I believe it has caused people to question what they value in life. They are looking at family, kids, relationships as well as meaningful work and making decisions to put those first. It will be interesting to see how this all shakes out in next few months and years. I know for me personally, I’m not getting back into rat race. If this means a job with less income, then we tighten the belt and trust God will provide.
It is a great comfort that we can take it to the Lord in prayer.. at the moment I am sure that most of the world are reviewing their priorities urgently...that goes for Governments too..the best led plans of mice and men oft gang astray...
Thanks very much. God doesn't very often send an angel down from heaven to guide us. But I feel joyful and happy. I'm a little surprised though how easy it is now to apply for jobs with the new apps. I applied for one yesterday morning and was surprised last night to be notified that an employer had read my application a few seconds before. It feels so funny to be filling in a CV again. But it's an adventure. It's so much easier applying when you already have a job.
When I worked on the London Underground I heard loads and loads of ghost stories. Especially from people working at night. One lady, a cleaner told me she was working at night cleaning a floor with a bucket of water beside her. When she put her hand out to put it in the bucket she found it had moved. She moved it back. When she tried again the bucket had once more moved. The third time it moved she actually saw it happened and moved herself away very, very quickly.
I have 4 interviews this week that have now moved onto the HR people (which I take as a good sign). You know that part of interviews where they say “do you have any questions for me”? That was when I asked usually some nonsense kind of question. But, now, I’m faced with a huge dilemma- do I ask and raise the VAC policy one? My gut says yes since it would be better to know and get it over with. Assuming as most places now mandate, I suppose I can find out their thoughts on someone who recovered and has natural immunity? But, again, my gut says to put it out there. Better to know before taking a job that would require it at some point. I never would have dreamed that this is a question I would be asking a potential employer. I’m open to thoughts of others here.
I was just thinking about this last night. I would certainly ask about it, in my reasoning it is better to know the answer to this going in than wait and find out 3 months from now when a company wide memo goes out. It is also a great opportunity for you to vet your potential employer and get a feel for how they do things. Outside most major cities like NY etc the vast majority of employers are not mandating anything. It is only those who are influenced by the Federal government who are coercing people to take shots as a condition of employment. I always found the best part of an interview was asking questions about process and procedures used. Most places it seems this isn't an important aspect of the process for some people but I found as I got older that it was the easiest way to get a feel for the people you would be working with and the companies policies. Who knows, it may just be the way you determine an employer is not the right fit for you and save you wasted time and grief going through the process again.
I also wonder when companies require vaccination and candidates for hire say "thanks for your time but I am declining your offer based on your requirement for vaccination" it will affect their decisions to carry on with this nonsense.
Maybe smaller business will adjust but the Fortune 500 will still follow the PLAN, I think! Lord have Mercy!
True but some of the "plan" isn't working. Last year they started up Common Pass in the US and it flopped. Vaccination rates despite all the negative press saying Aussies are caving to totalitarians are under 40% there. Same for NZ which has only 27% fully vaccinated despite their governments coercion. The press is making it to sound like the vast majority of employers here in the US are requiring mandates but good luck finding any actual numbers confirming that. They don't exist. We also haven't been hearing much about lawsuits being filed against employers. Maybe we should file all that under the US citizens who returned from Afghanistan but have yet to be interviewed category.
Neither are either of my daughters employers but they don't rely on the state or federal government either.
Thank goodness! I also like the fact that Chick-fil-A does not open on Sunday. The young people who work at the franchise near me are always so pleasant, and respectful. Good management.
