Pope Francis seeks 'pastors not princes' for appointment as bishops
    http://www.rte.ie/news/2013/0621/458115-pope-bishops/

Pope Francis has told senior officials to seek out pastors and not princes when recommending candidates for him to appoint as bishops.
He also told the Holy See's diplomats who serve overseas not to try to aspire to live calm and easy lives instead of acting for the glory of God.
Pope Francis made his comments in the Vatican to most of the one hundred or so clerics who double as his representatives to local Catholic churches throughout the world and as ambassadors to states.
According to the Vatican Information Service the Pontiff highlighted the search for new bishops.
Pope Francis said the Nuncios should "be attentive that the priests proposed are pastors who are close to the people as well as gentle, patient, and merciful."
He said they should also love poverty which frees them to serve God, living a simple and austere life. He warned that the nominees for promotion should not have what he called "a prince's psychology", or be promotion-seekers.
Concluding his job-description for the new bishops he'll appoint, the Pope said that, above all, they must be capable of "keeping an eye on" the flock that will be entrusted to them and of caring for everything that keeps it united.
He said they must be able to foster hope and there must be "sun and light in their hearts" enabling them to "sustain with love and patience the plans that God has for his people."

Here is the official excuse for the Pope missing the concert:

The pontiff was expected at a Beethoven concert, but Monsignor Rino Fisichella told the audience just before the concert was to start that Francis couldn't make it due to "commitments that could not be postponed." He did not elaborate...

Papal spokesman the Rev. Federico Lombardi said he had nothing to add to Fisichella's statement, and that the pope has confirmed his Sunday commitments.

The Vatican Insider published an alleged quote by the Pope which I will not repeat simply because it's alleged and divisive. Obviously, some members of the blog site are upset and have used this to feed their disappointments in Pope Francis to date. Was he rude in not attending? Maybe. The fact remains that we don't know all the facts. Speculation at this point will be used as a tool by the devil.

God bless Pope Francis and the Catholic Church!

Safe in the Hearts of Jesus and Mary!

My guess is he had more important things to do than attend a concert. Like pray, perhaps. Seriously, the Church is in her Gethsemane at this moment in time and the Pope knows his priorities; I think he can be forgiven for anything that, from the outside, might appear rude.

Yes, Phillip, I have the same sense. And it breaks my heart!

I close my eyes and ears to those critical of our dear Papa Francis - my blood just boils, the same as when someone disparages the Blessed Mother. G.K. Chesterton once called criticism of the Virgin Mary "a little hiss that only comes from hell." I feel the same way about this hyper-critical sifting of the Holy Father's every word, gesture, blink and nod.

Two other quotes come to mind:
None are so blind as those who will not see, and
Iif the enemy can't stop a parade, he will lead it!
