I am well aware that many more brilliant minds than myself will argue that AI is a neutral tool but I would argue that those who are behind its development are not neutral and see AI as the opportunity to incarnate those disincarnate spirits. The following article gets into simply the material aspects of Nick Land's philosophy regarding tech and AI and we are seeing this already. The lighting-speed with which it is being implemented, at least in the U.S. is very disturbing but I guess that's the name of the game.

What struck me the most from this article-

    • hyperstition: fictional ideas which can be made real. Very similar sounding to what Crowley defines as Magick.

    • the continual theme that humans don't control technology. Land says, in another article I read, that we simply "train" technology. He really seems to see it as an independent entity.

What the above article doesn't talk about is Land's deep-seeded faith in, well, something. Here's a quote from very recently:

As Land sees it, people—those working in AI, but also AI detractors like Carlson and Flynn—are coming around to his longstanding view that “it’s not like there’s two things going on, where one thing is Silicon Valley building superintelligence, and the other thing is a spiritual realm full of demonic entities.” He added: “As this convergent wave becomes more and more intense, people are gonna really say, look, these can’t be different things.”

Read the full essay here. It's all over the place with references from Paradise Lost, Nietzsche, Dreher to Chardin!

My conclusion about Land would be that he doesn't define himself as a Satanist but he is fully aware that what is going on in the tech world is not merely materialistic but a fusion of the invisible with the visible. And so my rough conclusion is is that AI isn't as neutral as people want to make it.

Thoughts? Can anyone point me to some reading material?

Daniel O'Connor has the best take on this IMO. It goes something like which follows. Yes AI is neutral, just as nuclear weapons are neutral. But the only conceivable good to come from nuclear weapons is that they can be used to shoot down asteroids.

No one is really telling us what is actually going on with AI and why there is such a ridiculous race in it. My personal thought is that they want AI to get so advanced that they can make programmable soldiers. Soldiers without a conscience. So they are buying time currently, keeping us focused on sensational distractions until this becomes a reality. I believe that the mark on the forehead and wrist could be a marker which these AI soldier robots use to track/identify humans like cattle.
