In this regard, the Decree continues, the “means of live (not recorded) telematic broadcasts can be of help”. It then emphasizes how important it is to dedicate “adequate time for prayer”. The Liturgy of the Hours, it noted, is especially important. Palm Sunday Holy Week begins with the celebration of Palm Sunday. “The Commemoration of the Lord’s Entrance into Jerusalem is to be celebrated within sacred buildings”, the Decree says. When celebrated in Cathedral churches, it specifies the second form from the Roman Missal is to be used, and the third form when it takes place in parish churches. The Chrism Mass The latest Decree says that the Episcopal Conferences “will be able to give indications about a possible transfer to another date" for the Chrism Mass. It is generally celebrated in every diocese on Holy Thursday, or on another day of Holy Week. Holy Thursday On Holy Thursday, the “washing of the feet, which is already optional, is to be omitted” the Decree says. The customary procession at the conclusion of the Mass, when the Blessed Sacrament is taken to the Altar of Repose, is to likewise omitted. The Blessed Sacrament is to be reposed in the tabernacle. The Decree grants special permission to all priests to celebrate Mass “in a suitable place, without the presence of the people”. Good Friday Wherever the celebration of the Passion of the Lord takes place, the Decree directs Bishops to “arrange to have a special intention prepared for those who find themselves in distress, the sick, the dead”. The decree also indicates that “the adoration of the Cross by kissing it shall be limited solely to the celebrant”. Easter The Easter Vigil “is to be celebrated only in Cathedral and parish churches”, the Decree states. The updated Decree clarifies that “in the ‘Baptismal Liturgy’, only the ‘Renewal of Baptismal Promises’ is to be maintained”. Further determinations Wednesday’s Decree notes that “seminaries, houses of clergy, monasteries, and religious communities shall follow the indications of this decree.” It also indicates that, unlike the official liturgical celebrations, “expressions of popular piety and processions which enrich the days of Holy Week and the Paschal Triduum can be transferred to other suitable days in the year”. Lynne, Thank you for posting this. If Pope Francis did state this I wonder why he would not at least mention repentance, penance and/or prayer. Even if he believes as many others do that what we are going through is a form of penance, I hope that he stated such. He absolutely should have said that we need to acknowledge our sin which he did but he should have stated that we need to confirm with God (normally through a priest) that we intend to sin no more. This is just my opinion of course, I just hope that he understands that this moment is a great opportunity because I believe that many people are listening to him at this time, far more than they have in the past. For instance, last Wednesday I went to pickup a pizza down the block at my local pizza place which is now closed as of last Friday. Well, when I got there they had a picture of Pope Francis hanging on their door with a quote that he recently said which the owner felt was uplifting. Maybe the pope's comments in regard to confession will be discussed on the World Over tonight, I hope so. I pray that Father Gerald Murray is ok too, being in NYC he was exposed to the virus over a week ago. I look forward to hearing from Raymond Arroyo and the papal posse on these matters, they are such a blessing. I believe that Pope Francis often assumes that we don't need to be reminded of certain things and then in turn he is misquoted but this is just a small criticism that I have. I was watching Fox News on Sunday and one of the pastors who President Trump often has at the WH, Evangelical Pastor Robert Jeffress, was being interviewed. The news caster and the pastor were talking about the fact that many churches are unable to hold mass currently with their congregation. So the news caster says to the pastor (I'm paraphrasing): unlike the Catholic faith which believes in the Transfiguration when at mass the bread is changed into Christ's body, etc. I cringed and shut it off. I suppose they were close and he just got the terms mixed up and I should be glad that the at least acknowledged Transubstantiation but at times my patience are worn a little thin, I must admit.

It all strikes me as either, at best, criminal negligence on the part of the Chinese Communists, or, worst-case interpretation, a deliberate biological attack on the West. There will be plenty of time to investigate these matters when things settle down. However, if I was a native of Northern Italy, I doubt I'd consider it over-blown. I'm most disgusted at the likes of the bishops of England and Wales who actually went beyond the official decrees of the authorities and actually closed all churches, with Archbishop Nichols declaring their remaining open as not 'essential'. This is what our own bishops think of Our Lord in the Tabernacle. There is no necessity for a third party to suppress Christianity, when clericalism of the worst kind does it for them.
Well...I've worked alongside "Medicine" for 30 years and this situation impresses me (negatively). Seeing the initial images out of Wuhan, of people collapsing or collapsed face-down, with blood around them. I don't want to play up fears but I can't also think of this as "just a flu." Did you read the quote from the expert in Italy who said that their numbers reported are wildly inflated? His estimate was that only 12% of the deaths were actually due to the virus. As the expert in the article that I posted above states, now he estimates 20,000 deaths in the UK due to this and of those half of them (10,000) would be people who were going to pass anyway "of natural causes" anyway. This has all been done to set the stage. Set the stage for what, is the question we all need ponder deeply as that is the real thing we should all watch out for, why did they do this, what did they prepare the landscape for?
