Matthew 13:44-46 Jesus said to his disciples: "The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field, which a person finds and hides again, and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant searching for fine pearls. When he finds a pearl of great price, he goes and sells all that he has and buys it." Sometimes the devil says to me that I am obsessed with God and prayer and the Church and all things Spiritual. One time he said to me, 'It's nothing but God with with you morning , noon and night , God, God God. Why can't you be like the other ones? They can pray and go to Church and believe and behave like normal human beings. It's mad! Why do you have to be so different? If only you were more like them I promise you I'd leave you in peace!' This gives me pause because it is quite true it is nothing but prayer and God morning noon and night. I revolve around God like the Earth revolves around the sun. One time one of my sisters asked my why I did not get married. I said that the only kind of woman I could marry would be someone like a Carmelite Prioress but I would probably drive her nuts with my God, God, God stuff. In human terms it is mad. Totally insane. But I always thought if there was no such thing as God , fine do as we like. But if we truly believe there is a God everything changes. Everything we say and do and are should center on Him. It is the only sane thing to do. So it is true in this life we can be married to God. Mad as that seems. So today's Gospel put a smile on my face. It talks of selling all we have to get the Pearl of Great Price. Of being mad in fact. But it is a wonderful madness. So the Devil is quite right it is nuts. But it is the best kind of nuts there is.
You are right Pádraig. Wasn't it Sr. Clare Crockett who said "it's all or nothing". And she chose to give her all to God. And how does anyone expect to do as the Lord says in Deuteronomy 6:5, if they do not give it their all. I am giving this advice to myself. "You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength. Let the words I enjoin on you today stay in your heart. You shall tell them to your children, and keep on telling them, when you are sitting at home, when you are out and about, when you are lying down and when you are standing up; you must fasten them on your hand as a sign and on your forehead as a headband; you must write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates." Jesus also told us this.
I think the Jews call this The Shema. They put this verse in the little strips they tie to their foreheads and arms it is so important a teaching. These are called Teffilin. Little boxes with scriptures within. Cover your eyes with your right hand and say: Hear, O Israel, the L-rd is our G‑d, the L-rd is One. שְׁמַע יִשְׂרָאֵל יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ יְהוָה אֶחָד׃ Recite the following verse in an undertone: Blessed be the name of the glory of His kingdom forever and ever. בָּרוּךְ שֵׁם כְּבוֹד מַלְכוּתוֹ לְעוֹלָם וָעֶד You shall love the L-rd your G‑d with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your might. And these words which I command you today shall be upon your heart. You shall teach them thoroughly to your children, and you shall speak of them when you sit in your house and when you walk on the road, when you lie down and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign upon your hand, and they shall be for a reminder between your eyes. Therefore, place these words of Mine upon your heart and upon your soul, and bind them for a sign on your hand, and they shall be for a reminder between your eyes. You shall teach them to your children, to speak of them when you sit in your house and when you walk on the road, when you lie down and when you rise. I wonder if this is why the mark of the beast will be on the hand or forehead in a direct sacrilegious contradiction.
That is so very insightful! In Satanic initiations they are asked to stamp on a Crucifix in order to renounce their Baptism vows. In Japan during the great persecution there, Catholics were asked to stamp on the crucifix in order to save their lives. It reminds me of Ancient Rome when Christians were asked to offer Sacrifice to a Pagan God. I was praying the other night and was shown that during the Reign of the Anti Christ people will be asked to kill the person they love most in the World in order to gain full initiation. To become fully possessed. So a son or daughter must kill their mother or father. a child their parents and so on. It may have been just my imagination but I strongly suspect this to be true.
The Readings at Mass yesterday were so good. The first Reading about Solomon spoke to me and help me connect to Gospel and the real treasure in my life. Solomon didn't ask God to remove his responsibilities; he asked for an understanding heart. I realize I spend so much energy trying to control things, please everyone, and avoid rejection. Today I want to ask the Lord for a heart that trusts Him more than it trusts my own efforts. Maybe that is the treasure Jesus speaks about in the Gospel—not that life becomes easier, but that Christ Himself becomes enough... that He becomes my All as spoken about above in the Shema.
What is Wisdom? It is the grace given ability to refer all things to God. To see as God sees. To hear as God hears. To speak as God speaks. To do as God does. To reflect God. Romans 1:22-25 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles. 24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.
Not out of the realm of possibility. I dont think we have any conception of the horrors that could be unleashed by the Enemy.
