When praying the sorrowful mysteries I like to think about the people involved.

Who were those who supported Christ in his passion?

Simon of Cyrene helped him carry the cross (and I like to think his sons Rufus & Alexander were with him as they both became early members of the church). The women from Jerusalem including Veronica (who compassionately wiped his face) and His Blessed mother on the via dolorosa.

At the cross his mother, St John, Mary Magdelene & Mary wife of Clopas.

    The good thief.

The centurion after he pierced his side.

There were many more who abused him, insulted and mocked him but the few who supported him must have consoled His Sacred Heart.

And the many future people who were there with Him in spirit--all those meditating on His Passion and loving Him through it.

20260808_072803.jpg Saint Joseph of Aramathea was very good. He help organise taking Christ down from the Cross and even gave up his own tomb for the burial of Jesus. A very big deal indeed.

St Joseph was clearly a wealthy man and a good organiser. A man of the World. He reminds me to look for saints everywhere including the wealthy and influential.

I have a lovely painting of the burial of Christ in my bedroom. It came from a convent Chapel in Belfast. When Mother Teresa visited Belfast she spent the night in prayer there and the next morning said this painting is very special/

I must see if I can find a copy of it online.
