Yes, I'm old enough now to know I'm often wrong and sometimes right and resigned enough about it all. Only now in matters of principle would I dig my heels in and there is no principle here. I do enjoy a debate myself But maybe not if it is turning too much in circles.
None of this surprises me. I've said this for years. "If you build it they will come." (Riff on Field of Dreams)
Wonderful! I think that is an excellent decision! One we should all be more conscious of as hard as it might be. I have felt myself slipping much more lately on this very topic in both thought and word. It gets harder and harder as the errors become more and more blatant. Remind me as well if you see my charity slipping.
Put me on the list too. St Faustina has some penetrating things to say about how we speak of and to one another. I’m trying to overcome this.
HE'S stretching, then. I am just shaking my head. It's simply absurd that he gave that as a reason, in my book. I find it difficult to believe he actually wrote/said that. He is not the Pope. he resigned.
I think for those of us who see what is going on saying things we should not is probably a big temptation. We should really never try to judge the inner motivations or thought processes of the clergy (or anyone). That seems to become increasingly difficult as some of them are becoming more and more outspoken in their errors. It is human nature to want to assume that they are evil and out to destroy the Church. It is the mind trying to make sense of a situation that seems to make no sense. It is certainly easier to think that they hate the Church and are purposefully trying to destroy it, than to think that they simply have an erroneous idea of what the faith is, but that they are trying to be faithful to what they think is true. To be sure, there are people who are truly out to destroy the Church, but there are also confused people and people who do not possess the true faith in it's entirety. In essence the Church today is a mix of faithful Catholics, heretics, and apostates. Unfortunately large numbers of the latter two seem to be dominating at the moment. The wheat and the chaff all mixed in together. Truly we should feel great sorrow for these people who have been so deluded. The fact that we have the faith in such a faithless time should breed humility, not arrogance. That being said there is such a thing as righteous anger, but that is not the type of anger that disparages a person or judges interior motivations.
I don't think that Cardinal Burke commented on the validity of the Pope in your post above, but he did clarify that we do not have to believe anything he tells us to do which contradicts the teaching of the Church.
Two Truly remarkable Signs happened for me this week end. I wonder if any other forum members had any similar experiences. On Saturday' Holy Mass; at the bidding prayers the Priest brought a petition for Senior members of the Church who have strayed into dangerous grounds, I got the impression it could amount to heresy type public statements. His petition was that God grant them the light to correct their thinking lest they lead the flock astray. Today Divine Mercy Sunday at the end of Holy Mass, the Priest at another local parish we attended to celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday, said before the final blessing he wanted to share some important information with us all. The important information he shared was; there are Cardinals and Bishops and even high ranking Roman Catholic Theologians who are publicly preaching heresy. We must not listen to them. It appears the problem is about Mercy, and the Roman Catholic understanding of Mercy does not in any way appear in the Lutheran understanding of Mercy. I believe he said there are a group of Cardinals and Bishops who have come together and published a letter to inform parishes that we Catholics need to be very careful on the meaning of Mercy. I came in expecting to see a new thread on the topic. And wonder if anyone else is aware of this new attack on our Faith. As for signs, I don't ever remember being cautioned in this way from the Altar before in my life. Surely this is a sign of the times.
Here is an interesting article by Roberto De Mattei: https://www.corrispondenzaromana.it...nference-catholic-church-where-are-you-going/ The end is interesting. When asked "What do we do now?" he recommends separating from any pastors who are not true to the faith in a similar way a wife separating from an abusive husband.
Wow Julia. This is significant. Perhaps the public stance of Burke Brandmieller and Schneider are strengthening the priests in the trenches.
The quote is that one of Pius X’s successors would flee Rome. He said it would be the Pope that would leave Rome. Benedict is not the Pope.
That's a good point HH! I never thought of that prophecy in that way. Is it possible though that in some sense Fr. Benedict is a successor. Not currently, but he was. After all do we not refer to the past Popes as "Pope" even though they are no longer alive holding the office. If this prophecy does refer to Fr. Benedict then the "same name" Pope Pius X refers to is his birth name and not his papal name. Though the prophecy never actually states whether Pope Pius X is referring to birth or papal names. So perhaps this prophecy refers to some future Pope Pius XIII or XIV or some such.
Pope St Pius X refers to the Pope. Benedict is and always will be a Pope, but, currently, Francis is the Pope. If there is to be another Pope Pius, I find the thought of a pope choosing that name encouraging.
Fascinating. I guess we are just not meant to know with certainty. The first vision refers to a Pope. The 2nd vision a successor. The first vision he could not tell if it was himself or a future Pope. The 2nd vision he knew they shared the same name. Whoever he is, he won't be leaving the vatican until there are many dead bodies to pass. Like the vision of the 3rd secret that speaks of a Bishop dressed in white and a Pope that has left us guessing. I think we will get the answers to these words pretty soon. It would be a lot simpler if Pope Joseph Fr Ratinger Emeritus XVI Benedict just died.
Maybe for someone who has so many names and titles it would just be easier to refer to him as the Bishop Dressed in White
Pope Francis has invited young people to Rome to tell us all how the Church should head into the future. It doesn't matter if they Atheists or Agnostics. It doesn't matter if they have left the Church. It does not matter if they are Muslims, Protestants, it does not matter if they are actively hostile to the Faith. You name; they're all there at incredible expense to the Church (yes you and me are paying for this showboat). Pope Francis has them all there telling the rest of us what to do. So we are about to be instructed in how to live our Faith by young people who have none. Does any of this strike you as wildly crazy? But Liberals of course just adore talking shops, talk, talk, talk endlessly. It's heaven for them. A cynic would say these poor young people are being used. They will be quietly controlled and directed by their Jesuit puppet masters to say what they are led to say.
Unless they find some black cassocks in his size I agree, Mac, more will be revealed And DeGaulle, thanks for your distinction between A Pope and THE Pope We will watch this space closely
