This has been around for awhile. A year and a half ago when we were living in southern Alabama, on a hot and humid Sunday morning it was real. I was at Mass, and towards the end of Mass little cell phones dings were going off all over the church. It was a tornado warning and alerts were sent to all cell phones. In the south there are no basements anywhere. So we all just looked at each other and shrugged . . . if I heard the 'train' sound I figured I would crawl under a pew. Just as Mass ended, my husband came running into church and told me to not lollygag around but head straight for home because a tornado was headed for Bay Minette and we were in the path. I made it home through all the heavy rain and crashes of thunder and flashing lightning. We had a total of fourteen tornado warnings that day. Thank God the church and our community was spared. But that and surviving two hurricanes convinced us to move back north and purchase a home with a basement. Yes, the fear is real.
What a terrifying experience. I don’t blame you for moving. We don’t have a basement here in Maryland although we do have an occasional tornado. The main danger here is from Atlantic hurricanes. My first experience was Hurricane Hazel in 1954 when I was in first grade. It hit the US as a Cat 4! In October! I don’t think it was a Cat 4 when it hit us in Maryland, but I think it was when it hit the Carolinas. It was so humid and the rains were so drenching. The wind drove the rain through the walls around the windows on the east side of the house. My father’s suit was so wet that it mildewed, from my childhood recollections. I know that warnings from tornadoes happen instantly, so the warning system is necessary.
Northern lights very intense last night in Michigan. We didn’t see it in Indiana but our kids in upper Michigan saw them. Also supposed to be a severe tornado outbreak this afternoon Miss/Louisiana/Arkansas.

I went into settings. Notifications. And turned off emergency alerts (actually, I had to footter about a bit. But I got there in the end). Anything this government is doing for my safety they can keep.
Goodness knows what this app really does, tracking wise. The last thing in the World we want is Pagan Satanic Governments tracking us.
Brilliant - thanks for the heads up - I didn't even realise that there was this alert system - I turned mine off too. Begs the question - why do all phones have this emergency alert system? - looks like this has been a long term plan.
