Fr. Steve Friday post…. I thought another very good one to share. God’s Mercy Is Insane By Fr. Steve Ryan, SDB I was struck by the Old Testament reading last week from the book of Exodus where Moses is pleading with the Lord for mercy for the Israelites who keep sinning. God is aggravated with them and this time He tells Moses, “You know what Moses? This has got to stop! I need to send them a message. As far as I’m concerned, they can wallow in their sins!” The Lord says, “This time they have to learn a lesson. I am not going to go out of my way anymore for these ungrateful people.” Moses begs God for mercy and reminds God that He has put all this effort into us in the past and that He might as well not give up now. God in fact changes his mind and relents. Instead of singing, “It’s too late, baby, it’s too late,” the Lord comes through for them. God says, “You’re right, Moses. I love My people too much to let them destroy themselves.” God starts singing His favorite song again, “I will never forget you, My people. I have carved you in the palm of My hand. I will never forget you. I will not leave you orphan. I will never forget My own.” I wonder if you and I are having a similar dialogue with God today? Are we begging Him to remember His mercies from of old? Are we talking to Him in a heart-to-heart manner and begging Him to have mercy on us sinners today? The world is in pretty bad shape. The sinning is serious. We are messing up big time both morally and spiritually. We are degrading the dignity of our humanity through perversion, selfishness and pride. We absolutely need to beg for mercy. Praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet is really mandatory for all Christians these days. It’s kind of illogical that God should hear our request. In justice, God should just cut His losses – “Let the bums go. I gave them a million chances. I revealed My love for them on the Cross and they just keep throwing it in My face.” But somehow, because He is a Love so big and omnipotent – we believe, we hope, we beg that He will have mercy. We are so blessed to have a God who is CRAZY IN LOVE WITH US! It’s not logical yet He is so insanely in love with humanity that He PONDERS OUR SITUATION WITH MERCY and keeps going out of His way for us. Scripture tells us He is like a shepherd who leaves 99 sheep and goes after one lost one; He is like a woman who loses a simple penny yet searches the whole house fifty times to find it. GOD IS INSANELY IN LOVE WITH US. Our response must be gratitude and conversion. “Thank You for this undeserved Mercy, O Lord. I repent.” We have to be grateful and we have to keep trying to resist sin. We have to wake up and start cooperating with His Grace. We also need to continue to be like Moses and pray for mercy – a mercy we don’t even deserve.

I having been keep an eye on the monkey werx YouTube channel since djmoforegon posted one of his videos. He is a Protestant but he is doing a great job of following worldwide news stories that I often don’t see on the internet. In this video of his he mentions the 6.9/7.2 earthquake that hit Taiwan a few days ago, there are other news stories which depict some of the devastation of the impact and after shocks that Taiwan had to endure. He also mentions that there is a lot of civil unrest popping up in countries throughout Europe like in Spain and Portugal, for instance. Maybe those living in Europe can verify this because I haven’t since articles on it. Thank you. I honestly don’t recall the title being discussed in the above video???
