Even when I was on the broad way myself in my youth I knew that if that happened I would get on my knees and beg forgiveness—like those present at the miracle of the sun. An FBI officer said she was “investigating the activities of an individual who was utilizing the wireless internet service of the National Solar Observatory … to download and distribute child pornography.” Officials on Monday said the observatory did not communicate with the public during the investigation because they didn’t want the suspect to be tipped off. “[O]ur desire to provide additional information had to be balanced against the risk that, if spread at the time, the news would alert the suspect and impede the law enforcement investigation. That was a risk we could not take,” officials said. Investigators determined the observatory’s janitor had used his laptop to connect to the facility’s wireless internet system, an FBI affidavit said. Federal authorities obtained a warrant to the search the suspect’s residence, Reuters reported, citing FBI records. On Sept. 14, FBI agents removed three cell phones, five laptops, one iPad, an external hard drive, and other electronic devices, from the suspect’s home, FBI records showed. An FBI spokesman said the case is still under investigation. According to the FBI, the suspect has not been arrested or charged. Sunspot is located in South Central New Mexico, about a four-hour drive from Albuquerque.

Sexual Abuse Survivor Priest Who Burned Rainbow Flag Punished by Chicago Archdiocese By Megan Fox September 18, 2018 A Catholic priest at Resurrection Parish in Chicago has angered Cardinal Cupich after he planned an event to burn an LGBTQ "pride" flag he found stashed away in his rectory. A victim of sexual abuse himself, Father Paul John Kalchik announced his intention to burn the sacrilegious flag in protest on the parish website. "On Saturday, Sept. 29, the Feast of Ss. Michael, Gabriel and Raphael, we will burn, in front of church, the rainbow flag that was unfortunately hanging in our sanctuary during the ceremonial first Mass as Resurrection parish," he wrote. The flag wasn't just hung in the church but placed in front of the hand-carved crucifix from Germany on the altar. Photographs were found of the rainbow flag intertwined with a cross hanging over mass that was being said by Cardinal Joseph Bernardin, who was standing next to Easter candles with rainbows on them at Resurrection Parish. At the time of that mass in 1991, Bernardin was at the forefront of the LGBTQ activism that is currently warring for the soul of the Church. Bernardin started AGLO (Archdiocese Gay and Lesbian Outreach) to provide mass for gay Catholics who reject Catholic teaching on sexuality. While the hierarchy of the Catholic Church is notoriously slow to punish priests engaged in improper sexual behavior, the Chicago Archdiocese acted with urgency to cancel Fr. Kalchik's event. After announcing his intention to burn the flag, Fr. Kalchik received a phone call from the Vicar for Priests Office, which is the disciplinary arm of the archdiocese. "It was a joint phone call with Fr. Dennis Lyle and Fr. Jeremy Thomas, who told me the cardinal had a message for me," Kalchick told PJM. "They said, 'the cardinal wants you to know three things. First, you are not to burn the flag and if you do you should know there are canonical penalties for disobeying the cardinal. Second, you have put in a transfer request to move closer to your parents and that will not happen if you do this. Thirdly, the cardinal thinks you should get a psychological evaluation.'" Fr. Kalchik has been under psychological care for PTSD and depression since he was sexually assaulted at the age of 11 by a neighbor and then again at the age of 19 by a priest. "It was very insensitive," he said of the cardinal's message to him. "My condition is not a secret. All of my adult life I've been in treatment for the trauma of my youth. But still I've managed to have a functional life and a very successful career."

New vents were seen blasting water and steam across the basin area in Geyser Hill, ever since the Ear Spring erupted on Saturday. Authorities have attributed the rise in geothermal activity to Saturday's eruption, after several new surface fractures and splashes of water were spotted at the Upper Geyser Basin in Yellowstone National Park. On Tuesday, spouts of water shot from the ground west of Pump Geyser and north of Sponge Geyser, also ejecting large amounts of hot steam. The new feature, which is eight-foot diameter, continues to show increased signs of activity after geologists observed the ground rising and falling by six inches every 10 minutes. Geologists have also observed new geysering and boiling at hot spring Doublet Pool and North Goggles Geyser, located in the Upper Geyser Basin. Officials have warned visitors to beware of new eruptions and have closed down several parts of the basin as they continue to study the rare change in the area's activity. On Saturday, Ear Spring erupted plumes of water up to 30 feet in the air, endangering visitors as debris and rocks flew into the sky. The last known eruption on that scale occurred in 1957, though several smaller eruptions were observed in 2004. Just not getting a good feeling about this. In 2006 we were there and it was my first time to Yellowstone. Honestly I had no idea what Yellowstone really was.i just thought of it as buffalo and geysers and a beautiful lodge. We were walking around by Old Faithful and I got this sudden flash of extreme discomfort and fear and a very pressing sense of absolute danger. I told my husband about it. I felt like we were standing on Ground that was getting ready to explode. It never occurred to me it was an actual volcano. How did I not know that—but I didn’t. My husband explained the whole area was a caldera. I was not at easeuntil we left there. Once the trip was over and we were home I looked up Yellowstone to find that geologists were always assuring it would be millennia before the volcano became active again. I wanted to believe them but it was no surprise to me to hear of these restless disturbing occurrences in the past few years.

They would have wanted to scrub each and every computer to make sure there was nothing stored there that didn't belong there; they would have wanted to check the antennas to make sure they weren't being used to either rec'v or transmit the porn. There's also a HUGE national security interest in this. Do a Google search on "steganography". What that involves is embedding data within other data, as in embedding a photo inside another photo. A few years back there were a number of cases where things like industrial espionage and terrorism were using stenography. In one case, the thief was using stenography to embed secret pictures and file into a graphic on the victim company's web page. He was found out when someone noticed that the data size of the graphic was MUCH larger than it should have been, and varied fairly often. In other cases, terrorists hid plans and other data in pornographic pictures; and one pedophile hid child porn inside pictures of his house. The FBI would have had to consider not only the original crime (the child pornography) but also the possibility that national security secrets were being encrypted inside the porn and made available using the resources of the observatory.

A column of volcanic material rose up to 1,200 meters (3,930 feet) into the air and ash fell in several villages. The alert level of the volcano was not raised. An eruption of Merapi on May 11 sent nearby residents fleeing to safer areas. The 2,968-meter (9,737-foot) mountain is the most active of 500 Indonesian volcanoes.
