ARTICLE 2: PARTICIPATION IN THE BLESSED EUCHARIST Can. 912 Any baptised person who is not forbidden by law may and must be admitted to holy communion. "Whatsoever you shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, whatsoever you shall loose on earth shal be loose in heaven." Can Pope Francis not accept the Lutherans into the fold if they proclaim the same creed as us and acknowledge that in their faith, the properly consecrated Eucharist is the glorified Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. Is this not what he is working towards. Is this not a wonderful end to their separation. A new beginning. Look at the law , if not forbidden, they MAY AND MUST be admitted.
That's the BEST post ever... gave me a hearty chuckle sir!... ok back to battle....errrr....gerrrrr grawllll
Non Catholics (with exception for the Orthodox) are indeed forbidden by law from admission. Surely no one on MOG is dumb enough to defend Lutherans being admitted?!?
http://www.catholic.com/tracts/who-can-receive-communion '..you must believe in the doctrine of transubstantiation. "For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment upon himself" (1 Cor. 11:29). Transubstantiation means more than the Real Presence. According to transubstantiation, the bread and wine are actually transformed into the actual body, blood, soul, and divinity of Christ, with only the appearances of bread and wine remaining. This is why, at the Last Supper, Jesus held what appeared to be bread and wine, yet said: "This is my body. . . . This is my blood" (Mark 14:22-24, cf. Luke 22:14-20). If Christ were merely present along side bread and wine, he would have said "This contains my body. . . . This contains my blood," which he did not say. '

ARTICLE 2: PARTICIPATION IN THE BLESSED EUCHARIST Can. 912 Any baptised person who is not forbidden by law may and must be admitted to holy communion. "Whatsoever you shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, whatsoever you shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." Can Pope Francis not accept the Lutherans into the fold if they proclaim the same creed as us and acknowledge that in their faith, the properly consecrated Eucharist is the glorified Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. Is this not what he is working towards. Is this not a wonderful end to their separation. A new beginning. Look at the law , if not forbidden, they MAY AND MUST be admitted. We are in agreement Padraig - look at the conditions I put - but with me and Francis, (my friend ) the doors are open to change. That is what Petrine authority is all about. Otherwise, why confer it. Christ knew about the need for the faith to grow and change, like a child grows to maturity. We are not talking about changing the words of Jesus. They will still have to discern the full and true presence. They cannot receive until the changes are in place and they are in communion in faith with the Roman Catholic Church.
Doesn't being "in communion with" mean that the Eucharist in the non-Catholic Church also is the body, blood, soul and divinity of Our Lord. Would anyone here be comfortable receiving Communion from the Bishop of Helsinki? Would you really believe it to be the Holy Eucharist? Just to be clear, I'm not convinced that giving Communion to the Lutherans was a deliberate breach of the rules. There could have been some mistake. In some parishes here, touching your left shoulder with your right hand means that you wish to receive from the chalice rather than receiving the Sacred Host (for people with wheat allergies). We don't really know the full story. Also, I was under the impression that, with special permission from the Bishop, Protestants may be allowed receive Communion on special occasions such as weddings. Was I wrong about that?
Im suspect of the story to begin with to be honest. Secret sources said... blah blah blah to Penten The so called Lutheran Bishop and followers had there arm crossed, meaning we cant receive Catolic communion...boy was tat point driven home but the Catholic Priests didn't hold communion back, the Priests insisted we receive.... yawn...another hand grenade against Pope Francis. Our poor Pope cant win whatever he tries to do
This was deliberate and coordinated at the top. http://www.ncregister.com/blog/edward-pentin/lutheran-group-reportedly-given-holy-communion-in-st.-peters-basilica Lutheran Group Reportedly Given Holy Communion in St. Peter's Basilica A Lutheran group from Finland, led by their bishop, Samuel Salmi of Oulu, reportedly received Holy Communion in St Peter’s basilica this week, despite indicating to the priests present that they were ineligible to do so. According to Finnish news agency Kotimaa, and reported here in Estonian, the priests celebrating the Mass were aware that they were Lutherans. The report said that at the time of Communion, the Finnish Lutherans put their right hand on their left shoulder to show they could not receive the Eucharist and wanted to receive a blessing instead. The Finnish Lutheran bishop said the priests distributing Communion ignored the sign and offered the Lutherans Communion anyway. The bishop also received the Eucharist. The report said the youth choir from Finland sung at the Mass, and Bishop Salmi was asked to greet those present on behalf of the Finnish Lutherans. So there was no doubt who they were. Bishop Salmi said Pope Francis was not present at the Mass, but said the Pope had repeatedly indicated he would like to develop unity between different denominations. The bishop, who in 2011 said homosexuals should have "full rights" in the Lutheran church, also told the news agency that Pope Francis has theological enemies in the Vatican and so may be limited in how freely he can speak. In November, the Pope said that a Lutheran woman married to a Catholic should "talk to the Lord" before receiving Holy Communion, although Francis himself did not give her permission to do so. The Pope's words were understood by Rome's Lutheran community to mean that Lutherans could receive Holy Communion, in accordance with their conscience, although such a reading was later refuted by Cardinal Gerhard Müller, prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.
