I think Brian's right, but I'm no theologian. My immediate thoughts went to the book of Tobit, where Tobit and Sarah both prayed to God to take their lives. and the Lord heard their prayer. Notice the bible calls it prayer.

    An Answer to Prayer.

16 At that very time, the prayer of both of them was heard in the glorious presence of God.

g So Raphael was sent to heal them both: to remove the white scales from Tobit’s eyes, so that he might again see with his own eyes God’s light; and to give Sarah, the daughter of Raguel, as a wife to Tobiah, the son of Tobit, and to rid her of the wicked demon Asmodeus. For it fell to Tobiah’s lot* to claim her before any others who might wish to marry her.

Moses (Nm 11:15), Elijah (1 Kgs 19:4), and Job (Jb 7:15) also prayed for death.

@thomas21 I will be praying for you. You are in the same boat we all are in now, the winnowing is becoming quite clear and pronounced now. We outcasts have family here and we will withstand the winds of the storm upon us now. Ceaseless prayer, every temptation and that's what this is, must be ceaseless prayer. Jesus I trust in you, O Jesus, I surrender myself to you, you take care of it.

Avoid the news. Very good advice here. Turn everything over to the Lord and be at peace. Remember Jesus was rejected and labelled a madman by His own. We are walking in his footsteps. Unite all our sufferings with His and pray for our enemies

Dearest Thomas..you are not insane, the world is! I feel every much the same. I too feel very depressed about the events of this world gone wrong….and these are normal feelings to deal with in a world that is so not normal. It’s especially bad today with horrible global events and the deaths of Americans in Afghanistan. Heart breaking beyond words and fears of continued negative fallout.

Granted, most people would choose to bury their head in the sand and ignore the obvious evil that surrounds us. It is not you that is wrong thinking…it is those who live life as though that evil doesn’t exist….and yes, those same people will tell you that your crazy, but if there is anyone that is crazy, it is they…they who do not want to acknowledge the wrong because it is too inconvenient. The see no evil, hear no evil…happy, happy, happy gang who won’t get it until it’s too late.
You’re right, they don’t want to hear the truth Thomas. As the Bible says, shake the dust off your feet and move on.

Please know that many of us deal with this same attitude from others….some in their own family.
When nothing or anything works, let it go and just give it to God. You may not be able to save the world, but He can.
Know that in the end, you were on the right side of the angels and may those angels give you peace and guard your heart.

Thomas, these are trying times for sure. Every age has trying times for people in some part of the world. Maybe it's our turn or maybe God will turn it all around. Only God knows what lies ahead for us.

Don't let doom and gloom get a grip of you. Just as there always were and always will be power hungry people plotting to bend the world to their will, there always were and always will be people who thrive on striking irrational fear and suspicion into people's hearts. No harm to be aware that fear mongering isn't exclusive to any single group. It can take different forms depending on the objective.

None of that is good. What is good is the advice from Scripture to let today's cares be sufficient and let tomorrow take care of itself. Wanting to be with God could never be sinful. Sin would enter in with any attempt by us to shorten the time God has allotted for us to know, love and serve Him here on earth.

God's grace is all we need to bear whatever burdens may lie ahead. The more we pray and frequent the Sacraments, the more grace we will receive. Confession is a great source of God's mercy and grace. Follow the priest's advice.

My current go-to prayer when things get on top of me is: Eternal God in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible........

Thomas wanting to go to be with the Lord is not a mortal sin. It is a result of deep discouragement and thd devil's assault upon a heart wound. Remember Jeremiah asked the Lord to take him. He had had it! And Jonah complained bitterly to God. Elijah laid down in complete discouragement and exhaustion wishing to die and the Angel came and told him "Eat and drink or you will not have strength for the journey." St Teresa after many trials cul.inating in being thrown from her cart into the mud said "Lord why have done this to me?" And she relates that he said "I treat all my friends that way." And she retorted "No wonder you have so few!" So you are in good company.
Everyone here is giving excellent advice and we are praying for you. Just hold on. Rebuke in Jesus's Name this spirit of discouragement and every other negative dark feeling you have. You have the authority to bind these spirits in Jesus's Name and send them to the foot of His Cross for Him to deal with.

Hi Thomas. Jonah, Elijah, Jeremiah and Job all went through a low point in which they wished they were not alive: but is was just that, a low point. In the end they embraced life. I think contemplating suicide is possibly something to confess, just for the fact that the graces that come with confession are healing, which is what you need. You also should seek professional help. Most health plans have some kind of mental health benefit. You could also tell your regular doctor and he may have some advice. If medicine is prescribed, I think you should take it. There is no shame in needed mental health care. Do what the doctor says. Jesus, please bless and strengthen Thomas and restore his hope and peace.

  8. Prayers for you, Thomas. Many people I know are struggling with division in their families. I am not gene therapied, my husband is. My son is not gene therapied but his fiance's family is pressuring her to get it. They are struggling now with this big disagreement. Unite your cross with the LORD, He is our guide. He is the Divine Physician. He is our Healer.

I love this quote. It got me through one of the hardest times in my life. :)

Thomas I will pray for you and ask the good Lord to hold you close and His Mother to wrap her mantle around you. Only you know the origin and degree of your thoughts. In my opinion, it is always best to confess anything that you have concerns about with a good and holy priest. I have a history of depression and have fought hard against it. Please hang in there and Trust in the Lord. Cry to him constantly for his Mercy and Consolation. I keep telling a dear loved one who is going through a very difficult time physically, mentally and spiritually and expresses similar feelings as you are now, the tribulation is difficult and will become even more difficult. :(

Fight for Faith for you are a Soldier of Christ. Be Strong and put on the Armor of God

    Ephesians 6:10–18:
    (10) Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. (11) Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. (12) For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. (13) Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. (14) Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; (15) And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; (16) Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. (17) And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: (18) Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;[1]

    God Bless you

Thomas read Psalms 102 - Prayer of a Troubled Man...
Psalms 103 - The Love of God...
It’s a great honor to have been chosen for these times. Because of our sufferings, future generations will live under the protection of God. Praise the Lord! Stay strong and obey his commandments. He won’t abandon you.
