DE Montfort is known for being easy to read, and I have found him easy to read, but in the consecration you do have Imitation of Christ meditations, which is in old english, which I find hard to do. But they aren't long and it's not through the whole 33 days, I just figure out what he's saying in my own english. I'm doing the 33 day De Monfort consecration with a group, but if I had my own choice I think I would choose the Morning Glory consecration, as I understand it's easier for lay people to understand. I think it was designed to be easier for lay people.

I haven't yet done Morning Glory (plan to start in May to finish on the feast of the Immaculate Heart) but I did Louis de Montfort's earlier in the year. What I would say about the language of it is that it is somewhat stilted and I felt that it was written for a different era. I think what is attractive about the Morning Glory one is the modern language and that the meditations that are drawn from JPII, Mother Teresa of Calcutta and Maximillian Kolbe. My mum has done both and she said Morning Glory is incredible but that it's not a bad idea to read through de Montfort's first as well if possible. I hope this helps!

At the beginning of the consecration there are 7 (I think?) days where you detach yourself from the spirit of the world before beginning the consecration proper. This seems a very good idea to me, I'm not sure whether Fr Gaitley's one includes anything similar.

At the beginning of the De Montfort consecration you do twelve days to detach yourself from the world, with meditations and prayers and changing your life. Than one week, for knowledge of self, one week of knowledge of Mary, imitatating Mary as the perfect imitator of Christ, then one week for knowledge of Jesus.

I don't recall reading anything about detaching from the world for 7 days in 33 Days to Morning Glory. Fr. Gaitley did his consecration using de Montfort's "formula". He wrote in the Introduction to the book that he finds more "spiritual fruit not in reciting long prayers but in pondering in my heart inspiring teachings on Marian consecration". I

For me, I had ordered the booklets from myconsecration.org. I paged through it and was wondering if this was really right for me. Then I went to a Catholic bookstore prior to Christmas and the lady there was telling me about 33 Days to Morning Glory. She was in the process and said it is fabulous! I bought it and found the readings and meditations to be quite inspiring.

April 10th is listed as one of the days to begin the consecration in 33 Days to Morning Glory. After that, the next one is Immaculate Heart but it depends on when it falls in the Church year.

I guess I didn't understand this as detachment but you are probably right, Hope. I will say 'yes' then.

Here is a link to the De Montfort consecration, so you can check out the differences. Yes, there are prayers and litanies. I have a particular hard time with litanies, but I have found myself getting a lot out of them. As I said, if it were up to me and not a whole prayer group, I'm sure I would have chosen The Morning Glory approach. Meditation has always seemed more important to me, but I try to tell myself that when Jesus told St. Faustina to do a novena for her country, He told her this novena would consist of the Litany of Saints.

    Hi Freedom,

I highly recommend the "consoing the Sacred Heart of Jesus" book
By Father Gaitly. It is tied in with the Divine Mercy message, it is
A great tool for personal spiritual growth.
My family also did the 33 days to morning glory, that also is very good!
    God Bless you, MJ

This year the feast of the Immaculate Heart is on 8 June, so consecration would begin on 6 May. Also the feast of the Sacred Heart is the day before the Immaculate Heart so its kind of a double feast as far as I'm concerned :)

  17. I have been doing the St. Louis de Montfort consecration for a while. It is a great blessing. Just to be aware though that She will filter the gifts of the Spirit and they may dimish in quantity but will increase in quality! That's just my experience...

By consecrating yourself you are participating in a huge push to bring about the triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. It can not be overstated how important individual consecration is. If only every Catholic, all 1.2 billion of us would participate, we would have all achieved the long-awaited triumph...longed for by most of us. Here is part of an interview that Bishop Hnilica gave to a German magazine in which he described the importance of the consecration that he carried out in Red Square Moscow in March 25, 1984...
........."If Russia had immediately been consecrated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, the Second World War and the spreading of the Communism and atheism would have been avoided. Holy Father, as soon as, in 1984, you consecrated Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, countless changes took place in Russia, and the fall of the communism began. In Medjugorje, Gospa started with the warning that there would be a war if we were not converted. Nobody took these messages seriously. Maybe, if the bishops of former Yugoslavia had accepted these messages more seriously, it would not have gone that far - but in any case, this would not have been a guaranty of the definitive recognition of the official Church, because the apparitions are still going on today." Then the Pope (Blessed John Paul II) told me: "Then, Bishop Hnilica is convinced that my action of consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary was valid?" I answered: "Certainly it was valid; the only question is how many bishops really did the same consecration in union with the Holy Father."

(Interviewer) Why is it so important that other bishops should have done the same in the sense of what Holy Father has done? Bishop Pavel Hnilica- It is expressing the collegiality of the Church; in other words, the unity of the bishops with the Pope gives to it a far deeper meaning. When Karol Woytila was elected a Pope in 1978, I congratulated him, but I immediately told him that something would be missing to his pontificate if he does not consecrate Russia together with all the bishops. He told me then: "If you manage to convince bishops about this, I will do it tomorrow." This is why, after the consecration (25.03.1984), he asked me how many bishops concelebrated with me. As I could not answer him to this question, the Pope said: "Every bishop must prepare his diocese, every priest his community, every father his family, because Gospa said that also lay people must consecrate themselves to her Heart."

Border Collie, please pardon my ignorance, but what do you mean?

  20. Hi Freedom, I mean She will filter out the gifts of the Spirit, like word of knowledge, discernment, revelation etc. For example I used to get words of knowledge and revelation for people but I or they didn't always know what they meant. However, since doing the consecration I noticed a drop off in the gifts but when I would receive them, they would go straight to the root of the problem.
Just one small example, I was asked to pray for physical healing for a person recently and whilst praying with them I saw in my mind an unusual shaped house with a distinctive door. I disclosed this to the person after praying about it overnight, after some surprise on the person's part they finally told me of a very serious incident that happened in that house some 40yrs previously. They had never told anybody about it and it was a huge burden to be carrying for so long.
I have lots little stories like that but I don't want to bore you and I'm sure plenty people here have more interesting ones :)
