I find my conscience disturbed tonight, sad to say. I went to go see a film, expecting it not to have anything morally offensive in it, and for the most part it was mostly clean. But there was a scene in which characters, not meaning to be blasphemous but rather out of ignorance and not understanding Spiritual questions, who did not understand the Sacred Mystery of Jesus as simultaneously Lamb and Shepherd and as Living Bread for the faithful to eat of. It was a line that made me cringe a bit in the theatre, especially since the film is aimed at a family trade, but I gave the film the benefit of the doubt since the characters spoke out of ignorance....

Well, to be to the point, I only found out after coming home from seeing the film, that a Catholic review source had condemned the movie for that scene and a minor plot point involving an Anglican minister having taken bribes in the past and admitting that he was a "bad shepherd" to do so. And to be frank, I feel myself reeling. Technically, I didn't commit a mortal sin since I went to the film without knowing about the line, the scene which is out of ignorance more than intentional defamation of God, or having seen the Catholic moral grade of the review, but I feel guilty now for having attended and taking someone (grown adult) with me. And I guess I am particularly conflicted because the film, other than that scene, is morally sound and of high artistic quality. I'm not trying to dismiss blasphemy, especially blasphemy that will be heard by all ages, but I find it bewildering how this was condemned and given the same "Offensive" rating as that horrible Last Temptation of Christ, the most blasphemous film ever made, not to mention how the same reviewer left the film Silence which condoned apostasy and was insidious in its evil a passing grade, meaning this was more offensive than that. I don't know. I don't condone the line, but I just think its strange how other films got away with more and were dubbed morally acceptable, and I guess I am also feeling as though it seems small compared to all the doctrinal confusion and promotion of abominations that have been coming out of the horrible Synod. I don't know. I beg forgiveness even though I didn't know I was committing a grave sin and I need to see what some of you think. I will confess it though...

God loves repentence. Do something positive to repent for the scene and the repercussions it will have on others. I hear our Lord's name taken in vain on tv on the news, and cringe! I did not know they were going to do that, it was done out of dumbness. So I make a reparation for it, and pray it will not happen again. We live in the world, not in a cloistered convent, so we will run into worldly things from time to time.

May I ask what the movie was? My husband and I have all but given up on watching movies in theaters anymore. Do they even make movies that don't have morally offensive things in them anymore? Even the Christian movies seem to twist things strangely or focus too much on the human/temporal.

I do have hope for Mel Gibson's Resurrection movie, though.

I also can't see the least little harm in it all.##

Although I am careful what I watch these days. It's hard to find anything to watch that is not abominable.
