    The Blame Game has begun!

Without pointing fingers thus far, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres described recent artillery and rocket fire around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant in central Ukraine as "suicidal".

The Zaporizhzhia plant - largest of its kind in Europe - occupies an extensive site on the river Dnipro, UKR.
It has continued operating at reduced capacity since Russian forces captured it early in March, with Ukrainian technicians remaining at work.

Amnesty International has already condemned Ukraine for targeting In what it called an “extended press release,” the international human rights group said last Thursday that “Ukrainian forces have put civilians in harm’s way by establishing bases and operating weapons systems in populated residential areas, including in schools and hospitals.” NYTIMES - https://www.nytimes.com/2022/08/07/...alled an,including in schools and hospitals.”

Russians have been at the plant for months! ... Why would Russia Target its own?

With claims flying in all directions, the White House tacitly admits the plant is a target of Ukr forces b/c of the Russia Occupation of it.

August 9, 2022 --- The White House responded to reports of Ukrainian strikes on Zaporozhye by demanding the withdrawal of the Russian military

The White House on Monday called on Russia to return full control” of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant near Energodar to the Kiev authorities.
Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry accused Ukrainian forces of “nuclear terrorism” for bombarding the Russian-held facility twice since Friday.

“Fighting near a nuclear plant is dangerous, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters aboard Air Force One on Monday, flying with President Joe Biden to Kentucky to tour areas damaged by flooding.

“We continue to call on Russia to cease all military operations at or near Ukrainian nuclear facilities and return full control to Ukraine,” Jean-Pierre added.

On Monday, the government in Kiev called for a demilitarized zone to be established around Europe’s largest power plant.
The Zaporozhye facility has been in Russian hands since February, with its Ukrainian staff continuing to operate and supply Ukraine with electricity.

Russia has accused Ukraine of “nuclear terrorism” over the repeated attacks on the facility. Ukraine’s 44th Artillery Brigade fired at the plant on Sunday from the village of Marganets, on the opposite side of the large Kakhovka water reservoir, General Igor Konashenkov said in a briefing on Monday. It was the second time Ukrainian shelling has caused a fire and a partial power outage at the plant since Friday, he added. Ukrainian troops targeted the Zaporozhye plant with several suicide drones in late July.

Kiev has claimed that Russian troops were using the facility as a staging area – but also that the Russians were shelling themselves. Moscow has rejected both of those accusations. The Kremlin has called on “countries which have an absolute influence on the Ukrainian leadership” to command Kiev to end the shelling.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has condemned the “suicidal” attacks on the plant, expressing hope that international inspectors will be able to access the facility soon.

Bottom Line? It's a mess of potential big-scale problems b/c it's a v.large plant with large amt's of nuclear radioactive material - which should never wind up in the groundwater, etc.

Both Sides continue to Blame the other side..
I can't see any military sense for Russia wanting to destroy the plant by Zaporizhzhia!
c.500 Russian troops control the Ukr Nuke Plant Operational personnel .
It's the biggest Nuke Plant in Europe..
If it blows? Most of Ukraine including Kiev, Kherson, Odessa, Parts of Russia, Belarus, Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria would very likely by affected.
IF winds go West, they can affect parts of EU further west..
Both the UN and China are urging restraint from both sides..
Many felt 'Chernobyl' when Kiev/UKR was part of the USSR was sabotage payback for 3 Mile Island blamed upon the USSR
    Whatever.. it's all v.v. disturbing
