Good morning everyone. It has been a while since I have posted anything though I do read through posts frequently. I wanted to ask you for prayers because right now the area that I live in is on fire!! What began as a prescribed burn (on a windy day) by the US Forrest Service has become a giant nightmare. This has been such a devastation, many homes have been lost, people have been displaced, have lost their pets, their livestock and it seems that this fire just won't let up. This fire has consumed 168,009 acres and is threatening the beautiful communities and surrounding communities of Las Vegas and Mora in Northern New Mexico. I'm not sure how many of you are familiar with the Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity (SOLT) but Mora is the area where it was founded by Fr. Flanagan and Fr. John McHugh. Both are now buried there.

Anyhow I live in the Mora area in a little village (there are quite a few of them) that has been evacuated and we have lost power and cell service. My husband being a volunteer firefighter, remains at home and I am with him. Most volunteer firefighters and their families remain in case the fire spreads to the areas where they live so that they can join in the effort to protect their homes and community. We have been doing ok because we have a couple of generators running and we have a solar powered well which we are able to draw our water from to keep us going. Roads are blocked all around us and we are able to leave but if we try to come back in, we risk not being allowed. I often have to drive down the road to see if I can get cell service, usually at least one bar on my phone that allows me to check in with family. Landline service was restored yesterday so at least I can get on the internet now whenever my husband turns on the generator. Like I say, we are fine but I am really concerned because the winds have been really high which is why this fire has consumed so much land. These last couple of days we have had a little break but the weekend is what I am dreading. The wind is supposed to get really bad this weekend on through the beginning of next week. They are expecting an even more catastrophic event. Right now the fire is about 15 miles away; however, if it crosses the highway, it is expected to make its way in our direction. We are surrounded by a lot of forestry but because of the drought, it is extremely dry. Also my three children have their homes in the Las Vegas area and their homes are also being threatened by this monster. Any and all prayers are appreciated. God bless everyone on this forum.

Hi Denmom, I live in Albuquerque. So many people are suffering loss and displacement. I am and will continue to storm Heaven. I saw some wildfire fighters in town yesterday from Nevada and Utah who have come to join the fight. Asking God's protection and care for all and our beautiful forests.

Prayers to the Holy Angels. There is nothing as frightening as fire.

Padre Pio said pray hope and don't worry. But it is so hard to do at times .

I thank God for each day without worry.

There seems to be strange things happening all over the place at the moment.

    It's like Planet Bizarro.

A time for deep prayer and trust in God

Thank you all for your prayers. So far the winds are calm at least where I live. It has been slightly breezy at times so I am hoping it stays this way. I know many are praying and our priests have remained here in our little community and have chosen not to evacuate. They continue to be here for the community and have been celebrating daily masses. I know that no matter what happens and it's not the outcome that I am praying for, God will not abandon us.

Denmomof3, My son and his wife made it through the Marshall fire a few days after this Christmas. It was a scary time but God brought them through it. I pray the same for you and your family. +
